Anxiety

Your heartbeat quickens,

And you can't catch your breath,

You sink to your knees,

You tried your best!

And yet they crowd around you,

Tossing insults and hate

Acting as if your failure

Is not up for debate.

You pull at your hair,

You cry out, "I know!"

And all they do is laugh

At your little show.

You act like a fool,

You give them what they want

But it doesn't matter what they say,

They'll come back, they'll haunt.

They will never let you be,

No matter how much you beg or plead,

They'll sit back, laughing scornfully

As they watch you bleed.

But they aren't saying anything,

Their mouths don't move an inch,

No sound slips past their lips,

Is this a dream? Your arm you pinch.

Is this all in your mind?

You can't seem to tell.

All you do know

Is that these encounters are giving you Hell.
