Chapter 26: I’m too heated and hurt to care~
**Austin’s P.O.V.**
Seconds after ringing the doorbell Zach’s beaming face appeared in his doorway. I gave him an almost genuine smile. I couldn’t say I’ve been happy for the past two weeks, but I did receive some joy from seeing my friends. After all, I missed them.
“Hey, man,” Zack said as we engaged in the typical ‘bro hug’ greeting.
“I’ve missed you guys,” I admitted.
“Same here,” he said, “Hasn’t been the same without you.”
I smiled gratefully and entered his home. As soon as I stepped foot inside, Alex greeted me with a cold beer that I gladly accepted.
After Alex and I said our hellos I made my way into Zach’s living room, with judging by the noise, I’m expecting the rest of my friends to be.
“Hey guys,” I smiled. This is the first time I’m hanging out with all of my friends in a while, I was pretty excited.
At the sound of my voice they all turned around to face me. When they all didn’t return my excitement, I frowned, “Did you guys not want me to be here?”
I’ll admit, that hurt a little. I mean, here I am elated to finally see my beloved friends and get out of this pit of misery I’ve seemed to have fallen in for two weeks, and they act as if they don’t want me around. Way to not feel wanted.
They all exchanged looks of worry and confusion before Tyler finally spoke up, “No dude, it’s not that. It’s just…we didn’t know you were coming.”
Now I was the one who was confused, “Alex invited me…”
“You did what?!” Sarah raged at her boyfriend.
Alex looked down at the floor and whispered, “I thought it was time that we all hung out. You know, all of us.”
“You’re such a fucking idiot,” she hissed.
This took me by complete surprise. Alex and Sarah were the couple. Ok yeah, Courtney and I were pretty perfect while it lasted, but Alex and Sarah were different. They never fought. They were happy in love like nothing could ever piss the other one off. It must’ve taken a lot to make Sarah glare at Alex the way she is right now.
Now that I think about it, it took me to get Sarah to glare at Alex the way she is right now. Why? I have no fucking idea.
Before I could question her on what exactly I did to her to make her not want me around, a familiar voice echoed from Zach’s hallway.
“Hey guys! Zach, you left the door open and…”
Once she abruptly stopped talking I knew she had looked up and spotted me. Hesitantly, I looked up from my beer bottle to match the familiar voice with the face. I was never more pissed that I was right.
As we both looked up our eyes met. My breath caught, my jaw tightened, and my heart dropped all at once. I don’t think I’ve ever been both angry and elated to see someone at the same time before until this moment. This is the first time we have seen each other in two weeks. And every fucking emotion, good or bad, seems to be flooding back with one look.
