Why Hermione Could Be A POC:
Why not? What do you have against it?
I mean, if the author herself has no qualms about it...
Then why would you? How dare you?
PoC are always underrepresented, not only in the media but also in literature and history and art and pretty much any record of humans to exist because for as long as we all have known, history has been dominated by the white race.
No one wants to start a riot and rebel when whites are casted to play PoC roles (ex: Stonewall, Star Trek: Into Darkness, Pan, Aloha, Oh I could go on forever) or even when PoC are whitewashed to play white characters (ex: Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz, Taylor Lautner, Bella Thorne, and more) but when PoC are put in roles that are traditionally played by white people, everyone loses their shit. Why is white the default when white people make up less than 25% of the world?
Upholding white supremacy and obstructing the progress of PoC makes you a racist. It makes you anti-black and typical and horrid. Get over yourself and learn to enjoy the black girl magic that Noma Dumezweni is bringing to the stage in July.
Meanwhile, I'll be rereading the Harry Potter, imagining this beauty as Hermione and maybe Dev Patel as Harry.
