Ch 2
Annie’s POV
We pulled up to the camp site behind the van and checked in, as we continued driving through the camp we ended up going different directions. I parked the car and sat for a while, looking to find Cody. I saw the lights from the car turn off and he got out. Followed by Jake, Alli, Justin, and Jessica.
I watched Jessica as she stretched and then put her head into Cody’s chest. To my surprise, she looked up and kissed his lips. Wow, I thought to myself. Never would have guessed they would ever be a thing. That basically meant I had no chance. And I’m not the type of person to be up for drama, especially not on vacation, or over a boy. Jessica could have him.
I rolled my eyes and popped the trunk. I got all of my things out and began walking to the cabin. We were directly across from the lake. I put my things away and then laid down on the couch, a few moments later I fell asleep.
The next morning I woke up and looked at my phone. Absolutely no service, but it was almost 4 am and I was rested. I got up and looked out of the window, it was almost sunrise. I decided to put on my bathing suit and go watch the sun come up over the water. I opened the door to a humid breeze, the ground still damp from the rain.
I walked down to the lake and looked around, I saw someone out in the water, wading.
I decided to do the same; I dipped under and came back up. The sun was red and the sky was a mixture of pinks and oranges. When the sun came up all the way, I saw the person wading turn toward me.
I focused my vision on them and realized they were doing the same.
“Hey!” I heard Cody’s voice.
Shit. I plugged my nose and quickly went underwater to swim back to shore. But to my dismay, he swam much faster than me and reached the land a few seconds after I did. I continued to ignore him and started to gather my things.
“Hey.” He said again.
I clenched my jaw and turned around. “Hi.”
“What are you doing up so early?” He said, pushing his blonde hair off of his forehead.
“I was watching the sunrise..” I struggled to keep my eyes above his shoulders. “But now, I’m going to head back to my cabin for breakfast, so I’ll see y---“
“I’ll walk you back.” He interrupted.
“Nah, it’s okay. You can go back to your swim, it’s just right there.” I pointed to it.
“Oh, alright.” He said, and I started to put my flip-flops on. “Well, there’s a bonfire tonight at my cabin. You’re welcome to come.” He said, and I felt him watching me. “See you there?” He sounded hopeful.
I looked up and he grinned. “Uh, sure.” I said hastily.
“Sweet. See you then.” He smiled.
“Bye.” I grinned half-heartedly. I walked back, taking a huge breath. Holy shit.
I got back to the cabin and began making breakfast immediately. As I was cooking I couldn’t help but think about him. He was actually really nice, but he was definitely giving me signals. And they were ones I wasn’t sure I wanted to deal with.
