Running Late

Aah, I'm late, I'm late! Marcus is already at the skate rink, I should've been there 10 mins ago!

He was nice enough to meet me & teach me how to ice skate, hope he didn't leave yet. My breathing is getting heavy from running as fast as possible to him. Whew, I see the gate - he's still there!

There's a sharp pain in my chest and when I exhale, hot air leaves my lungs and turns into steam. Sighing, I go to Marcus and place my hands on my knees, trying to catch my breath. "Sorry. I'm. Late. Thank. You. For. Waiting" I manage to say and Marcus just smiles at me.

"It's OK, Jessica, I don't mind. Let's put our skates on, shall we?" He takes my hand and guides me to the booth where we pay for our tickets and rent skates. I'm not sure if this is a date or not, because we're just friends, but I like him and maybe he likes me too. We'll see how this goes!

I sit down on a bench to take my shoes off and the skates prove difficult to lace. When Marcus sees me struggling with them, he kneels down and says "Here, let me take care of that."

For him it's effortless. One skate first, then the other. I feel a bit embarrassed because I'm 16 years old, I should be able to tie my own laces by now, but for some reason these were impossible!

Finally, we both have our skates on. Marcus looks at me, nodding his head. "Ready to go on the rink, Jess?" Yes, I'm ready!
