If I had known what a mess I would have been pulled into by moving half way across the country with my dad, I would have disagreed and packed up my bags for a year stay at Heather Finley Bed and Breakfast, also known as my best friend's couch.
And now as I stare and the five boys in front of me, I mentally slap myself for being so oblivious to what adventure meant to my dad. Oh this was going to be an adventure all right... one I have no interest in going on.
The boys were lined up from shortest to tallest, and most likely by age also. Roger Peterson, my dad's best friend, was the owner of a large gas company known as Fast Track... a pricy line of gas and yada yada yada. In other words, these boys were spoiled rotten.
My thoughts are suddenly interupted by my dad's large hand waving in front of my face.
"Huh?" I turned towards him, my eyebrows drawing in confusion.
"Roger is about to introduce the boys to you, pay attention."
"Okay, Marine these first two are Dylan and Cody, they're eight and they are twins," He pointed to the identical boys, my eyes widened and sadness marked my face, I was going to forget their names and they were going to hate me.
"This is Cole he's fourteen." I nodded.
"Sage, he's sixteen," Sage shot me a wink and I rolled my eyes.
"And this is Jase, he's nineteen, I also have two older sons that are twenty two and twenty six."
My eyes widened, Geez, where is their mother, I wonder what she had to go through.
"Jase, can you show Will and Marina their rooms?" Roger asked- no demanded- Jase.
"Sure," Jase didn't even hide the displeasure in his voice as he stalked up the stairs. My dad followed quickly, but I was still deep in thought, looking at the staircase in curiousity. This house was so elegant, who designed it?
I heard my dad's whistle and I glanced up at him, I shook my head, getting out of my daze, "Sorry, I'm coming."
I raced to catch up with the two and finally I was dropped at a white door, with intricate patterns that I recognized as Keltic symbols. It was so captivating, it almost looked... older. Suddenly the white of the door faded and it was replaced with rotted wood. I glanced at the door curiously, reaching out to touch it, but before I could, the white color reappeared.
"What the--" I was cut off by Roger.
"Marina, are you okay?" He asked, placing a hand on my shoulder. I turned to face him silently.
I nodded, "Sorry, I'm a bit jet lagged," I lied.
"Um... you flew from California to Kansas? Shouldn't you be well rested?" He asked curiously.
"Nope," I opened my room door and turned on my heel, "Thanks so much for letting us stay here Roger," I said quickly and then shut the door quickly, throwing my luggage on the bed. I looked around my room once again seeing aqua blue walls and hardwood flooring with a king sized bed. I smiled and lunged for it, hugging it as I realized its softness.
"Hey," I was snapped out of my wonderful moment by an unfamiliar voice at the door. I turned to see Jase, staring at my expectantly as if to here my reply.
"Hi, do you need anything?" I asked him, he was looking at my oddly and it was begining to scare me.
"I was about to ask you the same thing," He laughed, letting himself in and sitting down on the bed.
I studied his face for a long time and slowly it began to show a slight glow, unknowingly I asked him, "Who are you?"
He looked taken aback. He tilted his head to the side as I slapped a hand over my mouth, "Sorry, I didn't even realize I said that, it just came out," I laughed a little but he stood still, looking me in the eyes. His were a gorgeous brown, contrasting to his blond hair that glowed brighter than the rest of him. "Are-Are you one of them?" Another question I didn't even ask, it just fell out of my mouth, as if someone else had control.
"Marina? Oh my God, Are you okay?" Jase asked, cupping my face with his right hand, aking my face completely warm, his touch was soothing.
"Who are you, Jase Peterson? Are you an angel?" My eyelids began to drop as my senses failed me.
The last thing I was able to hear was the sound of Jase's voice, shouting for me, something along the lines of "I promise to explain".
