Chapter 15 - Ex's & Oh's

(A/N: sorry for not updating in a while, I've been super busy!!)

It's night time and we're now in the Forgotten Territory where Matthew came from. He leads us to his small house. "Jane is going to be here by tomorrow morning," he turns around and says to Lacey and Chase.

Chase looks kind of worried. "Jane Hathaway?"

Matthew laughs a bit. "Yep. I'm kinda her guard now."

"Okay," Lacey comes between the two boys. "Matthew you need to explain why you had to leave and why Jane left."

"Well Jane left because she said her cousins in the Fae needed her and I left because she needed a guard," Matthew pauses. "She would've asked Chase but she asked me instead," Matthew explains.

"Why would Jane even need a guard? And if you're her guard why are you living here?" Chase asks Matthew.

"I don't live here I just use this house when I'm in town. And Jane needs a guard because she's the niece of the Seelie Queen," Matthew explains. The Seelie Queen is the queen of the Fae.

"Um who is this Jane girl?" I cut in the conversation feeling like a ghost in the room.

All there attention snaps toward me. It's like they just noticed that I was standing here. "She's our good friend," Lacey answers.

Matthew walks further into the house to show us it. He points to a door where we'll be sleeping. Apparently he only has two beds (and ones for him) because he never expects more than one guest.

After Matthews done giving us a small tour, he prepares a fast meal: potatoes and chicken. I never really realized that I was starving until I started to eat.

I finish showering and put on pajamas that Jane left at Matthew's. When I come out I see Lacey and Chase talking and Lacey looks kind of worried. "Is everything alright Lacey?" I ask coming into their very small circle group.

"Yeah I'm fine it's just that Matthew asked me to sleep with him for the night," she bites at the bottom of her lip.

"Like sleep, or like sleep as in sex?" I ask confused.

Chase and Lacey both laugh. "No, like just sleep," Lacey answers still laughing.

"Then why are you all nervous?" I ask.

"Because he likes me. And I don't know what he's gonna say or if he wants to talk about us or anything."

"Wait so you guys have like a thing?"

Lacey laughs. "Used to. But we never dated we just liked each other," Lacey pauses thinking to herself. "You know what? I think I'm gonna sleep with him tonight."

It's around eleven and Chase and I are still up talking. We're both laying down on our backs looking up at the roof. "So how do you Lacey, and Jane know each other?"

"Basically we all grew up together. And Jane is kinda my ex."

My heart sinks in the dark. "Do you still have feelings for her?"

He laughs quietly then says seriously "of course not. We broke up three years ago, and I broke up with her."

"Why?"

"Because I never really liked her that much and she's too controlling."

We both laugh then we go silent for a little while. I start to wonder how he came to the Forgotten when he's a Morgenstern. "Chase, how'd you come to live with the Forgotten?"
