A little amount of my attention was on the road ahead of me as I walked to work, which was no more than 1 mile from my apartment. Though on a busy road, it feels so much further.
My lack of focus on what was happening often gets me in the most interesting of messes.
Such as, the worst and most life-impacting mess that I had ever gotten in to.
It started where I started, on that endless road to my endless job. It was also on that road where I met the giver of what will become my blessing and my curse.
He, as it appeared to be, was a wild dog similar to mixing a pit and rott. You could tell he was just a stray in this flaw full city, with a torn collar and almost a worse torn neck. His path was from an alley to my right that seemed as filthy as the creature himself. But, he was hungry, and foaming at the mouth in anticipation of a new meal.
I peered over at the creature before trying to escape him, but unfortunately my legs seemed to turn to stone in front of my eyes.
His bite was sharp, sunk into my skin like a dagger, piercing flesh and amounts of muscle.
I fell, hit the concrete trying to see what was happening, but everything was a huge blur.
I saw Animal Control, and then saw lots of people, who were standing, peering upon my fallen body.
One man, who was wearing a baseball cap I think, ran up to me. His foot elevated to the height of his knee and the last thing I remember was seeing was his shoe in my face.(101.86%)
I awoke, unaware of the time or the day. I was in a cot, a hospital bed, where the lights seemed brighter than the sun.
As I struggled to get my eyes open before the nurse next to me quickly said, "Oh no no no, you are not sitting up yet, sir. I cannot allow it."
After she said that I lied back down, still trying to open my eyes.
After I finally got my eyes open, the pain shot me down. I felt as if my skin on my right arm was being torn off.
I rolled and tried to adjust myself towards the nurse, with the her quickly putting me back into place muttering "They always try to move or get up, I swear."
I decided staying here was the best option after all, the pain isn't worth It just for moving. So instead, I turned to the nurse and asked, "How long have I been out?"
Before she even answered the look on her face said more than a day. "Two days, Mr. Hamilton, that's about as long as it's been."
I was stunned, sent into shock by my own sleeping power. Two days, that's too long to be asleep for. It was a miracle if on a normal day I slept six hours a night.
After the pain, a couple minutes on came the hunger. I was starving. I hadn't had food through my mouth for two days, and I deserved some.
I turned to the nurse to ask about it, but she was one step ahead of me as the food came in. "You were asleep, so we got you some salad. I hope you don't mind. Oh what am I kidding, everyone loves salad." she said, half smiling, a quarter lying, and a quarter doing her job.
"Thanks, uh that'll be fine" I said, quickly following up with "but can I get some ranch for this?"
The nurse chuckled saying, "There is some on the plate." "Thanks a lot for this, ma'am." I responded to her as I started to enjoy my salad.
I didn't bother asking how long I must be there, if I could leave I'm sure they'd tell me when the time comes.
"Oh, ah Mr. Hamilton, we found a miner virus we can't identify, so we'll need you for a day or two to see what it is and its possibly to harm you, I sure you understand."
"Oh yeah that'll be fine, ma'am" I responded thinking of all the work I'd be missing. I hope they don't fire me.
Not that I couldn't find another job, it was Carol. That was nearly the only time I ever saw her, and I didn't want to lose that.
I set my food aside, no longer hungry for shit salad, and tried to find sleep again.
It took longer than I expected, despite being asleep for two days, but in a matter of minutes I was in slumberland.I was tired, but could no longer sleep. Sadly it was nearly 9:30, and despite that fact that I slept all day in a hospital bed, I've always been by myself, alone.
Luckily, that lasted about three minutes, unluckily they weren't the company I required at this moment, or any moment ever, they were the opposite.
It was quiet just before they came in, and the room was dark because of the autumn moon above, shining white light into a dark night sky.
There were three, three heartless bastards ready to cause hell for my future, and my body.
The two on either side forcefully kicked the door, making fly open like I always imagined the pearly gates.
The one between them rushed forward like a defensive lineman, allowing no one to get behind him. When he reached me, he pulled me out of the pathetic cot and brought me to my feet.
He had me in a tight hold, bringing both my arms behind my back similar to a policeman. But, despite the official looking hold, I found a crucial weakness, his knee. It was in beside mine and seemed to be supporting his weight combined with he other.
In a matter of seconds, I bumped his the side of his kneecap and his body supported more weight onto the second leg. Then, I adjusted my weight to give him a one way trip to hospital floor.
I looked around the room frantically. There were still the other two men, but if could find an escape route, I could hopefully outrun them both.
"You spent too long looking,"said the punch metaphorically after it achieved landing on my left cheek. I had no choice but to fight them both.
Though sounding fun, it's obviously not as easy as it seems. The punch had just knocked me back, flustering me until my hand was grabbed. He pulled me back towards him, before lifting his knee, sending me sprawling.
Being on the ground gave me a great opportunity to see the ceiling, though I wanted him to be the one seeing the ceiling.
He stood over me, admiring his handiwork like a novice, unaware of the element of surprise.
He started walking around my body, a clockwise circle of retardism that this idiot seems to think is triumph. When I reality, it's my brand new plan.
"It appears you don't know who you are yet, nor the power you possess" he said continuing to pace around me "for if you did this mission would be evermore important.Lucky for me this is a break from the hard stuff."
As he approached my feet, I shot them towards his left shin, causing him to lose his balance. He stumbled until completely wiping out several feet away.
His partner was in his original position nearly ten feet away from me, though he quickly started in my direction.
I turned the other direction and fled, running straight into his partner. I was screwed.
His skull rammed into my face, and I fell onto the floor. I looked up at him to see his fist, a mere half-second before being knocked unconscious.
