When i was born i thought i was going to be famous, even though mama always said such ideas are to big for a little girl like me. It was true, such ideas are bigger than me, i mean i live in a shack house with six brothers and sisters. Master said that we didn't even deserve half of the things we get, since us negros always taking things. Papa always told us don't believe a word he said, he was a ignorant cracker that thought he was a superiour leader because he held power over something. Mama always told Papa to not have so much hatred in his heart, that so much hatred isn't good for a man like him, that the lord wont accept that. But Papa always told Mama hatred is the only way to survive in this world.
Until he got lynched of course..
Mama never told us what happened, so when she left to tend to Mistresses Babies i asked the negro maid working with us what happened. She said Papa talked to a white lady, but not just saying "Hiya" or "Good Morning ma'ma", but cursing her name and all she is worth. Of course every pale face is connected to another, so when Papa got done cutting the wood from the old houses that are now used to whip and punish those who are bad, he walked alone in the dark, i guess the women's husband and his pals came and beat ole' daddy up until he was bloody, with a mushed face like squash, then they tied two ropes around his arms and legs so he couldn't struggle, and another one, but it wasn't just any rope it was bob wire.
They hung him like a picture frame on the wall, before she could tell me the rest Mistresses came back and told our black ass ( don't tell Mama i said that) to get back to work before she tell Mr. Brumer to whip us till we are a pole..or something like that.
I didn't wanna ask Mama about it afraid that she would get old Maid in trouble. So i kept it a secreat between me and Negro Maid. I tried finding her and asking her more about my father, but when i did they said she fleed with a group of other Negros in race to find freedom, which was in the North i think. Some said that she was stupid for doing something like that, cause if she get caught she will be feed to the dogs, but i thought that was brave of Old Maid, i wish i could go with her.
But Mama said that was stupid too...
