Soon after Thomas Edison invented the lightbulb he began to brainstorm new inventions. After 10 years he had finally made the finest invention ever created by man; the time machine. No scientist had ever thought of making such a creation before; furthermore, scientist had little knowledge about the stress of traveling through time, but that would not deter Thomas.
Thomas Edison stared at the time machine with adoration and smiled. "I can not wait to test my new invention!" He said, beaming because he had finally made his idea come to life. Thomas walked towards his time machine and entered, but he pondered about what time period to visit. Suddenly, a lightbulb went off in his brain, "I know, I'll visit 200 years in the future!" he thought excitedly.
After pushing several buttons, Thomas's invention lit up; furthermore, he felt dizzy as he zoomed through time itself. He was amazed when he looked through the small window to see beautiful hues and sparkles filling the air around him. The machine soon made a high pitch squeal, starting Thomas. "This isn't supposed to happen!" He cries out. Suddenly, his machine slammed into something and knocked him unconscious.
An hour later, Thomas woke up dazed and confused. He struggled to lift himself up, but after several tries he managed. He cautiously stepped out of his machine to see an electricity free world. Looking around, Thomas saw civilians far away; furthermore, he was happy no one had noticed his contraption. He walked towards the nearest sign and read, "Philadelphia 1 mile." Thomas walked briskly, curiosity getting the best of him.
Soon, Thomas arrived to a small town with several hundred residents. The town had tall, oak trees surrounding it; moreover, there was a small, crystal clear river to the left of him. He saw many cattle in the meadows and horses drinking from large barrels. People were conversing and enjoying themselves, but when they saw Thomas a few walked towards him. A young girl smiled warily at him and said, "Hello, my name is Mary Jane, but who are you?" Thomas smiled at her and said, "My name is Thomas Edison, but you can simply call me Thomas." Mary smiled brightly at him and asked, "where are you from?" Thomas immediately thought of a quick lie and said, "I live down the river about fifteen miles, miss."
After cautiously speaking to several residents, Thomas decided to investigate some more. Soon, he found a newspaper that had the year seventeen fifty two printed in bold, dark letters. Thomas was disappointed; he had wanted to visit the future, but sadly arrived in the past. He decided to just go with it and investigate what this year had brought.
Not long after searching the town, Mary Jane came back and spoke to him. Thomas soon remember that Benjamin Franklin should be here, which excited him. "Excuse me, do you know if a man named Benjamin Franklin lives around here?" He asks politely. "Yes, he lives about half a mile away. If you follow that trail you'll find him" she said, pointing to a small, overgrown trail.
After Thomas walked the leafy trail, he came across a small log cabin. A familiar man was outside chopping wood, but stopped when he saw Thomas. "Excuse me, who are you?" The man asked. "Hello, my name is Thomas Edison. Are you Benjamin?" Thomas asked, even though he knew the answer. The man nodded his head politely at him. "Would you like to help me with my experiment?" Benjamin asked, looking hopeful. Thomas nodded excitedly, "I would love to!" He said. Thomas looked at the sky; it was cloudy and seemed like it would storm soon. He knew exactly what was going to happen later.
Later, Benjamin came back with his key and kite. The skies became dark and then wind blew hard; it was the perfect weather for this event. Benjamin tied the key loosely to his kite and flew it. The wind blew harder and thunder boomed loudly in the sky. After a few minutes the kite was soaring around violently. Suddenly, the key fell off of the kite when lightning struck. Benjamin looked disappointed and said, "I guess I'll do it another day."
After Benjamin's failed experiment, Thomas went back to the town to find his time machine. He found his experiment and turned it on; the machine was glowing brightly. He stepped in and pressed several buttons, and he soon felt it begin operate again. Thomas saw the incredible hues and sparkles once again, but this time he braced himself for a rough landing. The time machine slammed into the ground; moreover, after Thomas recovered he stepped out to see he was near his house.
Soon, Thomas looked around, but something was different. Everywhere was pitch black, which made him very curious. He walked into his house to see no sign of electricity anywhere. Frantically, Thomas searched his house for any sign of what he loved, but there was none. "Oh no, what have i done?" Thomas cried, sliding down a wall sadly. He was completely struck with fear; furthermore, how could Thomas live without his precious electricity? Everywhere he visited was absolutely dark, due to no lights. Thomas sat sadly on the sidewalk and thought to himself about how he had ruined electricity, the best thing ever created by man.
