Chapter 1- The beginning of it all

Annie's POV

This morning when I woke up mommy told me that I was invited to go to Katie's tonight after gym for a sleepover and of course I said okay. I was finishing up my breakfast then I ran upstairs to pack everything up for today. I grabbed my gym bag, school backpack, bag for Katie's tonight, and my water bottle and then walked down the steps trying not to fall over because of all of the stuff I had in my hands. "Ready to go?" Mommy says pointing the camera on me, "Yeperdoodles" I say then laugh. I walk over to Hayley and hug her tight before walking to the garage. "Byeeeeee!" Hayley screams at me one last time.

-After gym practice-

I grabbed all of my things and me and Katie walked out to her car. "I'm so excited" says Katie, "I know right me too" I say after we both squeal a little. We hop into the car and soon enough we're at her house. We both run inside and drop our bags onto the floor and then go over to the counter to make cookies. I'm so happy that I have had Katie by my side through Caleb's death, she's my best friend and always is there for me. "Okay, first thing first-" "I'm the realesttttt" I say interrupting Katie. We both laugh and then get the ingredients out. Once the cookies are in the oven, we both go and sit on her couch. When I sit down I look outside and see the snow falling. I wish Caleb was here with us all. If I would've known that last year was his last Christmas with us, I would have made it more special. I would've hugged him everyday and tell him that I will always love him even when he's gone. Why did he have to go? I'll never understand that. "Annie?.....Annie?" "What?!" I say kind of harshly. She looks taken back at first but then asks if I'm okay. "Yes, I'm fine! Why does everyone keep asking me that?" She looks down then mutters "I'm gonna go use the bathroom." As soon as she leaves I mumble "I didn't mean to..." Tears start to fill my eyes. I didn't mean to screw everything up. I hear footsteps coming up the stairs and look up to see Brennan before quickly looking away. "Hey Annie." "Hi" I say quietly. " He closes the fridge and looks at me. "Is something wrong?" He asks with concern in his voice. "No-nothing" I say. But I couldn't hold it in anymore. I just start crying and bury my head into my hands. He walks over to me and hesitantly puts his arm around me (we could both feel the awkwardness). "Hey, it's gonna be okay. I know it's hard but we're all here for you guys. I know we haven't talked much since the... *cough* Brannie thing, but I'm here for you." I pick my head up and nod my head. "Thanks" I say. He smiles at me and then I smile back. All of a sudden my stomach tingles. What? What was that? Wait are those butterflies? I used to like him, but I definitely don't anymore... Right? He stands up and walks to the stairs. Before going down he says "You okay now?" I nod and smile, then he walks down the steps.  Ok, wow, that was too much for one night. I go into Katie's room to find her on her bed. "Hey... I'm so sorry, Katie. I really didn't mean to snap at you and you know that I love you like a sister, I really hope-" she stops me by hugging me really tight. "I know Annie, it's okay, I promise. Love you" she says. I hug her back tightly. We both pull away and spend the rest of the night doing random things until we finally lay down and go to sleep.
