That wicked and unforgettable day would replay over and over in her head until the day Dayla ceased to exsist.
She remembered it like it was yesterday.
It was the last day of summer camp for Dayla and her little brother Jayson and Ms.Coleman was picking them up.
2 months ago today to be exact.
She was parked across the street from the building. She smiled and waved at her kids .. before being hit head on by a drunk driver.
She died on impact.
Dayla and Jayson buried her less the a week later. Her body was so damaged and tangled, they had to arrange a closed casket sevice.
Dayla blames herself everyday.
Mr.Coleman would've been at the funeral if he hadnt ran out on them when Ms.Coleman got pregnant with Jayson. They were both only 16 years old when they had their first baby Dayla. When Ms.Coleman gave birth to Jayson it was only a year later. He felt as though he couldn't handle fathering two kids and not even being an adult yet. So he took the less complicated way out and thought his eighteen year old girlfriend could do it without him.
Dayla and Jayson didnt have anyone else to go to, both Mr and Ms.Coleman were orphaned only child's. Dayla was emacipated. Which means she can legally take care of herself and Jayson, even though she's 17 years old and he's 16.
............................................
The two teenagers moved into a house in a town called Beacon Hills last night. They we're living off of Ms.Coleman's life insurance money until Dayla and Jayson settled in, she planned on getting a job.
"I got it." Jayson said rescuing Dayla from the heavy box that she was carrying to the kitchen.
"Thanks." she smiled, looking around the house.
It was actually perfect. It had three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a huge kitchen and a living room. The basement itself was live in. It was like a little house, it had a little kitchen and bathroom aswell.
"Thank God mom was a doctor." Jay yelled from the upstairs.
"Yeah, she always wanted the best for us." Dayla mumbled.
He always used jokes as a defense. Not in a demeaning way, but to get through the pain.
"God, mom I miss you." Dayla added hanging the first picture on the living room wall. It was of Ms.Coleman.
Ms.Coleman was a dark, strong, down to earth, natural ebony goddess; especially in Dayla's eyes. She never wanted Jayson to feel like she was trying to replace her. Let's face it, the 16 year old idolized her mother, wanted to be just like her. She asked herself everyday, why do bad things happen to good people. She still had'nt quite figured that out yet.
She continued unpacking the dishes and placing them where they belonged.
Once Dayla had finished unpacking everything in the kitchen and living room, she moved on to her bedroom. It was the only bedroom downstairs. It was also the only master bedroom, it had a walk in closet and a bathroom.
"Knock Knock." She heard Jay say from the other side of her door.
"Im going for a walk." Jayson said.
"Okay, just make sure your phone ISN'T on silent and you're back before curfew." She told him.
"Be careful out there, we just got into this town. There's no telling who all lives here." She added.
"And dont go too f-" She started.
"Alright, alright." He kissed her head, letting out a small laugh. He knew she only wanted to protect him as much as possible and he loved her for that.
"Im serious Jay, I dont know what I'd do if I lost you." She said.
"I promise I'll be careful." He said, walking out the door.
"Be safe." She whispered.
