Chapter Twenty-Four

"What's up?" Michael asked the table as he shuffled himself in beside Jade and kissed her cheek. They really where sweethearts, it was kinda cute actually. Calum and Ashton pulled up seats and sat at the other side of the table, and then Luke came in, and sat next to Drew. Fucking asshole. He's not really done anything apart from sit down but that's not the point here.

"Shall we order?" Jade asked and we all nodded. She called over a waitress; a pretty girl with pink rimmed glasses and roller-blades on. Yes, it is one of those cliche places like in teen movies but the vanilla milkshakes are to die for. One by one, we each ordered our own individual desires.

"So, this is Mason, Damen's boyfriend and this is Mason's brother Drew." Jade introduced them to everyone. I'm not sure why because around sixty percent of the table knew each other already and the other forty would catch up soon anyway.

"I had no idea you knew Jade's brother Mason," Luke started the conversation, "How'd you meet?" it felt increasingly awkward but apparently I was the only one who felt it. I just wanted to punch him in the face. I couldn't help it. The stupid smirk, stupid blonde hair and lip piercing that would clink on my teeth as I kissed him and the stupid way he sat; slumped over, silver chain hanging from his neck and stupid muscles showing through his stained white shirt. I hated him.
"You okay?" Drew whispered to me as Damen decided to do a full rendition of how they'd known it was love from the moment they first met. I looked up and smiled at him as a I nodded. He kissed my forehead and we had one of those cute smiling moments you get when you're young and having one of those moments. Drew was just the nicest guy.

"I have a triple chocolate with strawberry sauce." The waitress appeared at our table, balancing two trays full of ice-creams and milkshakes just waiting to be devoured. Handing out everyone's order, there was a pleasant silence around the table as we all dug into our treats. Vanilla Milkshake with whipped cream, raspberry sauce and a number of other toppings; please get in my belly.

"So how long have you two been dating?" Luke asked. He stretched his arm out and put it round the booth so that it kinda looked like he was trying to make some kind of weird move on Drew.
"Only a few weeks." Drew replied confidentially. Drew never knew this history between Luke but he knew I hated him and I don't think from what Mason had told him, Luke made a very good impression.
"Cute." Luke stated patronisingly and went back to eating his ice cream. Douche.
"Want to go out to the lake afterwards?" Jace asked. Did I really want to go to a lake? Last time I went out with these guys I got bit by a fucking snake and spent a week in hospital.
"Sure." Mason replied. Fuck my life. That means Drew will go as well, which means I'll have to go. After paying for our delicious treats that I really wanted another of, we left and I jumped in the front of Drew's car whilst Jade brother along with Mason sat in the back; probably canoodling like a pair of lovebirds. Drew followed Jade's car and Ashton's car followed behind us. Cars still made me uneasy after the accident but at least the scar on my face had faded along with the memory. I don't even know how we did crash that night? It was all a blur. Our car, another car; then we where crashed at the side of the road and I was cry for my younger brother, praying he was okay. Of course Jade's crazy driving didn't help and only fuelled my anxiety so I was glad to be in a pair of safer hands.

The lake wasn't particularly exciting. It was what it said on the tin; a lake with a wobbly wooden pier that had rotted with age and a small clearing surrounded by grass. I'll probably get bit by a snake again or something. We all climbed out the cars and as we walked Drew subtly threw his arm around my shoulder and I held onto his hand; how very romantic where we. Tay was the first to sit down, he plonked himself on the edge of the pier and took off his shoes to dip his feet into the freezing cold water. Was I hell doing that?

Everyone sat down like how Tay did and I really didn't want to but Drew was tugging on my arm and whimpering like a dog. Fine. I kicked off my shoes and carefully lowered myself down in between him and Luke surprise, surprise. What a plot twist there. At least I could look hot as fuck with my new athletic body as I kissed Drew and held his hand.
Everyone was joking and laughing and it was actually a really good atmosphere. I had no idea Mason was gay and had actually found myself wondering if he was crushing on me at some point before I met Drew but it didn't really make a difference. We all just accepted it as everyone should in today's society.
"Hey want to go somewhere?" Drew whispered into my ear, holding onto my leg and kissing my cheek.
"Like where?" I muttered back; trying to keep my voice down. Jade would probably shout some crass comment if she heard us whispering.
"I don't know, anywhere apart from here." I smiled and at Drew and nodded as he said this. My feet where getting cold anyway. Drew shifted himself up and stood up on the dock.
"Mase, we're going to head but you can get home right?" Drew spoke to his brother who was currently cuddling with Damen.
He looked us up and down before smirking. "Sure." Drew raised his eyebrows at his brother.
"Where you guys going?" Jade interrupted, finally peeling her lips away from Michael; shed been rather quiet and now I understood why. 
"Away to shag another one." Luke muttered loud enough for everyone to hear. A simultaneous 'what' was heard.  Luke just laughed and pressed a beer to his lips.
"What the fuck is that supposed to mean?" The words where like pure venom in my mouth.
"You know what it means." His tone was pissing me off and I knew he was only trying to provoke me but I could feel the burning in my cheeks and my fists clenching, one hand in Drew's.
"What the fuck is that supposed to mean?" Drew stepped in, repeating what I said. Thank god, I was about to blow. Staring Luke up and down; he looked pissed as hell.
"Why don't you ask your slutty girlfriend." Luke laughed back at him. I lost grip of Drew's hand and he lunged at Luke and they both crashed into the water like, I don't even know, some kind of awkward seals? I'm not good at all this figure of speech crap.
They resurfaced a few minutes later; Luke with a bloody nose and Drew had a bust lip. Climbing quickly out of the water, Drew's face was bright red as he grabbed me by the wrist and yanked me away with him. We reached the end of the pier and quickly got into the car. I quickly clicked my seat belt in and Drew drove off like a bat out of hell. I didn't dare say anything as his hands clenched the wheel and his breathing was heavy; please don't crash this fucking car.
About ten minutes later after we'd drove further away, he pulled up at the beach, the one opposite my house, and parked in a space facing the sea. It was awkwardly silent.
"Your seat  is a bit wet." God dammit, what the hell. That was the total wrong thing to say. Mila you're a disgrace. I awaited a reply.
After a few moments Drew's shoulders started to shake and for a moment I thought he was crying until I heard the snort of his laugh. "What did I say?"
"A really dramatic episode just happened and all you say is 'your seat is a bit wet.' What the fuck Mila?" He laughed. I smiled back at him. "Awe, I love you." And suddenly he stopped laughing and my smile kind of went into those awkward 'I was happy a minute ago but now I'm confused but also kind of flattered' smiles.
"What?" I feel like I say that word a lot. Probably because I'm always in a constant state of confusion about life in general. He smiled and looked round at me.
"I mean it. I don't punch people and dive into a lake for nobody." Drew had perfectly aligned teeth that played part in a wonderful smile and even though I'd kissed his lips hundreds of times, I only now noticed the small freckle in the small left corner of his mouth. "I know we've not even been dating that long, but I do love you Mila."
"I love you too Drew." I leaned over in my seat and kissed him, pretty well if I do say so myself.
"Mila," he interrupted our kiss mid-flow, "what the hell happened with Luke?" Well I knew  it would come up at some point.
