"Sam!" He yelled breathlessly.
"Theodore Banks, c'mon! We can't stay here forever! We need to head back home! Our parents would get mad at us! Especially Pops!" I scolded him.
"Wait!" He said jogging towards me,"We will come back here again, right?"
"Of course! C'mon, we can't get in trouble." I assured with a smile. A glint of hope was in his eyes but quickly disappeared when I grasped his hand with mine.
We ran out of the field sprinkled with vibrant flowers and surrounded by tall spruce trees. Out of the forest and into the backyard with seasonal roses. Our favorite field- it seemed to be plucked out of a fairy tale - was now fading from my view. Time to get back in the house and into a different world.
We were panting like dogs by the time we reached the back door that connected to the garage. I took a deep breath before inserting the key into the knob. I led Teddy around the cars, careful not to scratch them.
After we victoriously entered the house, we made our way up the stairwell that led into the hallway. We walk down the corridor until we reached his room. I plopped onto his bed and exhaled a breath.
Oddly, I couldn't hear anything - no chatter or laughter coming from the adults downstairs. Our houses were always garnished with colorful paintings, sculptures, tables, flowers, pots, and vases. But it was all so dull to me. The only color I found was with Teddy in our little field.
Followed by three knocks was a clear voice: "Your parents request that you will be in the courtyard. They have information that they'd like to tell you"
I looked down and Teddy spoke up,"We'll be there".
Feeling his eyes on me, I looked up. A somewhat sad look was cast upon his face."C'mon we can't get in trouble" He teased repeating what I constantly nagged earlier. He extended his hand to me and I took it. We descended down the marble stairs and went into the courtyard with our hands still locked. I saw the adults come into view in their Sunday's best; in their hands fancy drinks that I couldn't have yet.
"We have news." His parents said.He gently squeezed my hand. I looked up at him curiously. His face has solemn. My mother patted the seat next to her, I went to her and sat down. Teddy went next to his mom too. Mom put her arm around me and rubbed my shoulder. She looked down at me and smiled. But, it was weird, it didn't quite reach her eyes. Dad on her right kissed her cheek and warmly looked at me,"Hello Samantha, my darling"
"Hello daddy!" I shot back another smile. Mommy looked at Teddy's parents. My eyes followed to where she was looking. His mom nodded her head at me with a smile.
"How are you doing, darling. Good?" Mrs. Banks asked. I nodded my head. "That's wonderful. Darling, your dress is beautiful" I quietly peeped a 'thank you'. Mom gripped my shoulder slightly tighter. " I'm so glad to see that you and Theo are great friends" She started to break into tears. I scrunched my eyebrows and looked at Mr. Banks as he rubbed her back. He looked at me and opened his mouth, only to soon close it again.
Mr. Banks exhaled a breath," I'm sorry to inform you Samantha, but we're moving."
...
"You know, he is a dickhead and doesn't deserve someone as great as you" I comforted Alyssa who just went through a break up.
Her mascara and eyeliner were now running down her face as she blew her nose. She tossed it into the trash can with tissues filling over the brim."Come on, Honey, tell me what happened" I rubbed her back in comfort. Break-ups are harsh and every girl who has gone through one knows what I mean.
