Midnight

I jumped from my spot on the couch when I heard a loud banging on the front door of my dorm room. I panicked because it was nearly midnight and no one is supposed to be out of their dorms after 11 p.m. so who would be knocking this late?

I would have been less scared if my room mate was here with me but she was visiting her family on vacation so I was alone to deal with this stranger at my door.

I turned down the volume on the tv and stood up to walk to the door. I was only wearing sweatpants and a band t-shirt who my boyfriend, Niall, let me borrow last week so I was hoping that whoever was at the door wasn't someone who I had to look nice for because I looked far from it.

This is one of those moments when I wished the doors for dorms had a little peep hole so that I could just see who was on the other side but they don't so I actually have to open the door.

I turned the lock and twisted the door knob and barely cracked the door just enough so that I could see into the hallway.

There was no one there.

I opened the door all the way and walked into the hallway to see if maybe they thought I was sleeping and began to walk away but there was no one there.

It was probably one of the boys in the dorm rooms surrounding mine trying to pull a stupid prank so I walked back inside and shut the door and relocked it.

I was beginning to walk back to my spot on the couch so I could resume watching my show when I felt my heart drop to my stomach from hearing the banging on my door again only louder this time.

I slowly tiptoed back over to the door but I didn't dare open it. Instead, I just spoke through to the other side.

"Who's there?", I spoke, my voice sounding shaky.

Silence. Not a single sound came back through for at least two minutes.

I decided to investigate. I peeked through the cracked open door to see if there was anyone standing there but the hallway was empty yet again. I opened the door further so that I could step out into the hallway. I looked to the left of my dorm entrance and there was no one so I turned to the right to see if there was anyone when I nearly had a heart attack.

There was someone there. It was Niall.

I let out a shriek because he scared me out of my mind and right away I heard his obnoxious laugh. Personally, I didn't think this was funny at all because it was the middle of the night but there was something comical about me being scared to him.

"Niall!", I yelled at him as I slapped his shoulder.

"Ow! What?!", he retorted as he rubbed his hand over where my hand struck him. He still had a smug little smile on his face.

"Why would you scare me like that?! It's too late for this!", I yelled. I was angry because I was genuinely scared for my life.

"Oh man babe, you should have seen your face!", he spoke with excitement. He's not quite helping his situation.

I didn't even say anything back to him. I began walking back into my dorm when he put his arm across the doorway, blocking me from getting in.

"Babe?", when he spoke this time, I could tell that the smile left his face but I didn't look up to meet his glare.

"What.", I replied in a monotone voice.

"Love, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you. I just wanted to surprise you with a visit.", he said in a sweeter tone.

I continued to ignore him as I moved his arm out of my way and walked back to the couch inside my dorm. I slumped onto the cushions as I heard Niall follow after me and close the door to the entrance. He sat next to me for about five minutes before he spoke again.
