Prologue- The Dreaded Plane

"You talk to me every day… Promise me? I love you so much Ebony, you know that."

Looking back into his grey watery eyes, I replied.

"Daddy, I'll ring you all the time, I love you."

"My girl, growing up and making her own decisions. I cant believe your nearly sixteen now."

My father’s iron grip on my hand loosened.

"I love you." he told me, for the fifth time.

"I love you too."

He hugged me tightly, crying freely now, and nodded for me to go.

I kissed his forehead quickly, tears springing in my eyes too, and turned away with my mother, Amelia. Ivan, my step-father barely acknowledged me, and showed his passport to a man who looked as if he was about to drop dead from exhaustion.

I smiled at the man, and he took in my tearful state and gave me a sad smile in return.

I turned for one last look at my dad, but he was gone. I knew lots more tears were coming so I hastily wiped at my face, my mum looking a little worried.

He checked me and my mum's passports, then we moved on to have our baggage searched.

Once that boring part was over, we sat down to wait for our plane.

"How long is it gonna be mum?"

"About 25 minutes." she told me.

Sighing, I pulled out my iPhone from my bag, and shoved my earphones in. I played happy music, and closed my eyes, focused on my breathing, so that I wouldn’t cry.

I was pretty sure I fell asleep, because all to soon, I was being shaken.

"Bennie, wake up!" my mum said.

Opening my eyes gingerly I see her standing over me.

"Uh.. Nuuhhh.. Is the plane boarding?" I asked her.

"Yep, come on hun, up you get."

We joined the huge queue of normal class boarders, eventually got on the plane and took our seats. A tiny touch-screen television was imbedded in the back of the chair in front of me and I immediately started playing with it. A few good movies and TV episodes were on there, but in under 4 hours I had watched them all. Soon, everyone else on the plane was asleep and I was the only one awake, I pressed the button that showed your journey so far, and looked at the amount of time I had left.

17 hours.

Moving from England to Australia sure sucks.
