I'm running. Like before, five years ago. I am running in my old neighborhood past my dad's house and into the woods. I run to the same rock where I met him. I climb on top of the Rock and sit there. Suddenly the air changes and the wind picks up. The leaves starts flying around in one circle around a person. The one person I thought I would forget. Alan.
I sit up abruptly from my nightmare, or what seemed like a nightmare. I shake my head and look beside me. There is Hayden, just like before. His red hair still bright in the darkness of our bedroom. His glasses on the nightstand next to him, which have gotten bigger throughout the years. Hayden's hazel eyes suddenly flutter open and look at me staring at him.
"Good morning." Hayden says sitting up and giving me a kiss on the forehead. I look away at the ground. Hayden grabs my hand.
"Hey, everything okay"? Hayden asks me. I look back at him.
" Had another nightmare." I tell him looking down at the bed sheets. Hayden pulls me into his arms and we lay down again with me in his arms. His head resting on my head and my hand in his. We lay there for a while until his alarm actually goes off. Then he has to let me go. Hayden gets out of bed and stands on the floor. He grabs his glasses and puts them on. I get out of bed and stand in front of him.
" Much better." I tell him smiling and kissing him on the lips and walking out of the bedroom.
Hayden and I moved to New York about a year ago and have been living together ever since. We don't live in the nicest of apartments, the rooms are kind of small but overall it is a good apartment for the rent we pay. I am still working on my art degree. I am also doing cinema studies, dramatic writing and design for stage and film. Hayden is working on his degree as well. But his is a little bit different as he is doing an independent study. We both are going to New York University and we had gotten tired of the dorms. So, we moved in together.
I walk into the kitchen and open up the fridge. We have eggs, fruit and soup. Hayden walks into the kitchen and looks in the fridge with me. He shakes his head.
" I though I told you to go grocery shopping." I tease Hayden. Hayden rolls his eyes and playfully punches me in the arm. I smile and take out the fruit then put it on the counter. The apartment has a kind of modern theme to it with abstract paintings on the wall. Hayden hates it but I love it. I make myself a fruit salad and sit down on the couch. I turn on the television and start watching Doctor Who like always. My lessons don't start until noon but Hayden's start at 9 am. I hear him turning on the shower and I look at my phone. It is 8 am. The nightmares have been happening too often for me to handle. It happened yesterday and the day before that. I hear the Panic! At the disco music turn on and I smile. Of course he chose them to listen to at 8 am. I hear the doorbell ring and I run to the door. I open it to see it is the postman. I thank him for the mail and bring it into the kitchen. They first package is the rent from Hayden's parents. The next piece of mail is a flyer. I look and see it is just for a theater class. The last package is the newspaper. I look at the front paper. I nearly drop my bowl of fruit. I slam the paper down and go back on the couch. I shake my head and look out the window. I place the bowl of furor on the coffee table and get up to look at the newspaper again. Sure enough there is Alan's face on the front cover. The title says, " Alan Hunter wins Best Newcomer Comedian" Alan is holding a trophy. I throw the paper across the room. No. No more memories of him. He caused me years of pain, I don't want him anymore. I don't need him anymore.
