Chapter 4

It's been about ten minutes since the greenie came up in the box and now the keepers and myself, as Minhos second in command, are standing around in the homestead waiting for Alby and Newt to begin the gathering.
When will they start? We have been waiting here since the greenie was put in the slammer I think to myself.
Alby finally steps up in front of everyone to begin the meeting.
"So today we got our new greenie, and I think all of you will be thinking similar things to me, he's different. So we need to decide what we are going to do with him, and we will cast a vote" he says.
"We will go round the room and say what we think we should do, or say if we agree with someone else." He adds
I didn't pay attention to any of their votes. I was just stuck inside my mind being shown things I've seen in my head over and over since I got here.
"Liz..."
The images are still running through my mind
"Liz, you shuckface" I heard that
I look at who was talking... Alby
"Yeah" I said
"What do you think we should do" alby asks
"I didn't realise I got a vote... I'm not a keeper" I say
"You get a vote because your the only girl here and you are Minho's second in command" he answers
I quickly think of my answer, and take a deep breathe before speaking up.
"To be completely honest, I have no idea what to do with him and it's not my decision... but, you all took a chance on me and we all know yes I'm different, I'm a girl, and because you gave me a chance I think you should give him one too. He was sent up in the box like the rest of us, he can't remember a bloody thing like the rest of us, I think de deserves a chance like the rest of us" I stop and see everyone is looking at me attentively. I continue "everyone no matter who they are deserve a chance, and if he does anything that we don't agree with we can just toss him to the grievers. But yes I think he should get a chance like you e done for every other greenie. Like you did for me". They all just stare at me.
"Ok, after hearing everyone's views let's put it to a vote" ably says.
He goes around the room asking every keeper their vote. In the end majority voted for my view.
"Dismissed" Albys voice booms through the room.
Everyone walks out.
I run after Minho who is heading towards the map room.
"Hey, find anything today" I ask
"Hello to you to, just the same old walls" he replies
We get to the map room and all the other runners have left because we were busy with the gathering. Minho takes off his runners gear while I lean over the table with the diorama with the maze on it. Minho comes up behind me and puts his arms around my waist and his head on my shoulder.
"Hey, it's ok, we'll get out of here... one day, i promise you" he says
I huff out what air I have in me
"You've been doing this for what three years and your still stuck here, everyday you have gone into that maze, yes you've found things but where have they led us, we're still stuck in the glade." I say quietly.
I turn to him and continue "how have you not lost hope Minho? Not only have others run each section of the maze but you've run every in of that place yourself and still nothing. I've been at this for two months, since my second day in the glade"
I turn to him
"It's just hard thinking that we'll never make it out of here" I say putting my head on his chest
"You know what? I'm happy as long as your with me. Out there in the world, in here. As long as I don't lose you" I smile when he finishes
I look back over the table and just let my mind go blank.
I turn to him.
"We should probably go, new greenie today, you know what tonight is" I say
He laughs
"Yeah, the new shuckface of a greenie... he's a stick best bet he'll be a slopper" I think Minho uses glader slang more than any other glader.
We walk out towards to open grass area of the glade.
