The End Of Life As We Know It

The Beginning

I'm sitting on the sofa watching my favorite t.v show (Mike and Molly) waiting for my mom and dad to get home. Mom made my favorite dinner for me to reheat when I got home from school so that made me a little happier. I'm just wondering to myself why my best friend Kailey had to embarrass me in front of everyone at lunch time. What did i do for her to do that? Oh well. Maybe Matthew can tell me tomorrow.

*Ding Ding*

A text from my dad came in.

Dad: Echo, are you home?

Me: Yeah dad, just waiting for you and mom to get home.

Dad: Me and your mom have to stay at work tonight. We have to finish this experiment for Dr.Lawson before tomorrow

Me: Oh.. okay i guess I'll see you guys tomorrow then?

Dad: I'm sorry honey. We don't wanna stay here, if we dont get this done we could lose our jobs. Why don't you call Kailey and have her come over?

Me: Ok dad, I love you, tell mom i said it too.

Dad: Good Night honey, i love you too

I wish they were home more, this house gets so lonely at night.

Me: Hey what are u up to? Wanna come over?

Daniel: Sure whats up?

Me: Mom and dad working late again x( come keep me company?

Daniel: I'm  sorry baby, I'll be over in about 30-45 mins, that ok?

Me: okay ill see you in a little. Love you

Daniel: I love you too.

I fell asleep while waiting for Daniel, I woke up to him cuddling me from behind, he fell asleep too.

"Hey when did you get here"

"Bout an hour ago I think. You looked so cute sleeping so i didn't wanna wake you up"

"Aw well aren't you sweet"

" So I've been told"

" So when are your parents supposed to get home? "

"Who knows with them,  there never home ever since they got their military science jobs"

Just then a loud siren went off  and a warning streamed across the t.v screen.

"A large infection has broken out in the Tacoma military base, we are in the middle of a catastrophe . No one is allowed in or out of town. This is not a drill,I repeat,  this is not a drill"

" Oh my god, are they serious? "

"I hope not. My mom and dad are there"

*Ding,Ding*

Mom: Echo are you home?

Me: Mom! Are you and dad ok?

Mom: Yes, we are ok for now, we are in lock down in our lab but idk how much longer we are going to be able to stay locked in here.

Me: What's going on mom?  What happened?

Mom: Honey I can't tell you everything,  all i can tell you right now is you need to get out of town and head to your grandpas cabin in Spokane,  you'll be safer there.

Me: No mom Im not leaving you and dad.

Mom: Echo Larane Adams you do as I tell you. 

Me: I can't mom,  im coming for you and dad.
