a story in which a single dad, who is beginning to lose hope, must raise his twin daughter and son by himself. that is, until a certain girl named julie turns his whole world around and restores the light in his life.

"eva! michael! dinner's ready!" nate calls out as he places two plates of chicken nuggets, corn, and mac & cheese on a small coffee table.
it didn't take long before small footsteps and giggling were heard throughout the living room.
the two children sit down at the coffee table and eat their dinners while watching cartoons on the television.
nate smiles to himself before walking out onto his apartment balcony and lighting a joint.
"daddy's doing that thing again." eva says to her brother in a small whisper. or, at least, what she thought was a whisper.
"what 'thing'?" michael, her brother, asks cluelessly.
"the thing that makes his mouth like a dragon's mouth." eva says, before biting a chicken nugget.
michael nods his head and turns his attention back to tom and jerry.
meanwhile, tears begin to form in nate's eyes after having heard the conversation between his two children. he wanted to quit badly, but, with the way his life has been treating him, he just can't find himself putting away his bad habit. it's too addicting and stress-relieving and it is the only thing that is supporting the small string of hope he has left.
he smokes for five more minutes and proceeds to put out the blunt and place it in a metal tin container.
he walks back inside the apartment, clearing his throat and coughing a bit as he enters the living room.
"daddy, are you a dragon?" eva asks him.
nate begins to laugh and lunge toward eva, tickling her and causing her to erupt in a fit of giggles.
"daddy, can i be done with my food?" michael asks his father, showing him a plate with a pile of corn on it.
"michael, you have to eat the corn. at least eat half of it. you can't just have chicken and pasta... you need to eat some of the corn." nate replies to michael.
"yeah, michael." eva sasses and taunts.
"shut up, stupid." michael yells.
"ooooohhhh! daddy!!! daddy! michael said a bad word to me." eva yells to her father nate.
"enough!!! both of you go brush your teeth and go to bed!" nate's anger gets the best of him and causes his outburst to scare the twins and make them cry.
they run away from their father and into their shared bedroom, slamming the door minutes later.
