maffew: minnie
maffew: minnie, dear, i need you to call or text me back
maffew: if i were to say i were dying would you answer
maffew: or if i said i've fallen and couldn't get up would you answer
morgan: matty, you're 26, if you've fallen and are unable to get up it's sad
morgan: and i think you've forgotten that i had like five meetings today
morgan: and that i have to go find an outfit for the event at my aunt's tomorrow
maffew: morgan
morgan: if it's that serious i'll be right over
throwing on clothes morgan trotted across the street only knocking on the door once and making her way inside. she called out for matty, and when she got into the kitchen he and a woman were standing face to face. she began backing up slowly until-
"minnie! mum this is minie, minnie, mum."
morgan's heart may or may not have stopped. possibly due to the fact that matty introduced her to his mom. i mean, whether it was an introduction because matty couldn't bare to be with his mom alone, or a genuine one, morgan was still flustered. her heart was in her ass for Christs sake.
"nice to meet you morgan."
"as well as you mrs. healy." she responded noting matty trying to hold in a laugh
"are you coming to dinner with us?" she asked looking between matty and morgan
"uh, i actually-"
"yes, she is! go on and get dressed morgan and meet us back here in an hour."
morgan bit her lip nodding her head in a way of telling matty to walk her to the door, which he did.
"i'm going to murder you. like, butcher you and feed you to that weird cat down the block."
"love you too minnie. now go on and be back here asap." he ushered her out with a slap on the butt, gaining a middle finger in his direction
++++++++++
morgan felt uncomfortable. she didn't know if it was the dress she was wearing, the fact that matty would kick her every time his mother told a story, or the fact that his mom actually seemed slightly interested in her.
she was a nice woman, but, all morgan could see was this women that didn't care about her son, didn't care enough about who he actually was and constantly tried to change him.
"...and so matty goes "no Nana, I don't want all your kisses on me. they're going to make fun of me." and she kissed him all over," her laugh interrupting her story
"he may not have said it aloud but his Nana and I both knew he loved it." her eyes scanning over the both of them
matty hadn't said a word since the story began, so when his mom excuses herself to go to the powder room all her attention went to the quiet boy next to her.
"you're okay." she stated
matty nodded, "yea i'm okay."
"can I meet your-"
"no." he snapped
morgan was caught off guard, deciding on not saying anything. instead, she just concentrated on the empty white plate in front of her.
"minnie," he sighed placing a hand on morgan's thigh "I didn't mean-"
"oh morgan, what is it that you do?" his mom asked as she placed herself across from them
"i'm in art school, and I'm interning at moranne's in downtown."
"moranne's is very nice. it seems like you're doing well." she smiled
fakefakefake.
"see matty, going to college could pay off."
"i'm 26 mum, she's younger. plus, college just wasn't for me and it still isn't."
"you wouldn't know because you haven't tried it. you have to actually-"
"i don't want to go to some shitty college, where they make you feel like shit mum!"
"matty." his mom and morgan said in unison
"are you going to tell me to listen to my mum too morgan? you know what, i'm leaving." he snapped pushing his chair back and walking right out the restaurant
both women sat there shocked, slightly angry, upset.
"i'm sorry about that morgan." his mom apologized trying to avoid the gazes coming from the people around the place
"it's fine, i'm just going to go." morgan felt awkward as she pulled out money until...
"you don't have to pay honey. i invited you so i'll take care of the whole thing."
morgan repeatedly thanked her, grabbing her bomber jacket off the back of her chair and left without looking back. she walked down the street, thanking god her choice of heels were comfortable. the slight breeze hit her face every now and then, her thoughts so jumbled that she couldn't form something that sounded remotely normal.
"hey," a voice said from the left side of her
she turned to see matty driving slowly next to her. she kept walking.
"minnie i'm sorry about that."
she didn't say anything.
"morgan, please. it's just, do you understand how it is to have a mum that pressures you into shit that you don't want to deal with."
morgan just shook her head looking at the boy with one hand on her hip.
"you should apologize to her."
"no. definitely not."
"well, i guess i won't talk to you until you do huh?" she said and finished the walk to her house without matty annoying her the rest of the way.
