Beware of the nothings.
The noises in an empty room are not something to ignore.
Bumps in the night, swearing you heard someone call your name, or whispers you may hear when you're by yourself in a dark room. Even down to the ringing in your ears going silent, even though there's nothing to listen to, should be taken as a sign....
Walking from your room to the kitchen in the middle of the night is an all too easy task, but tonight you saw a shadow move from the corner of your eye.
"It's nothing." You say to yourself. You were wrong in doing so, but how were you to know that?Your television set turns on turns on to static and white noise, sending a chill down your spine. You turn it back off and unplug the cord.
"It's nothing." You say again. You'd think you humans could be a little more creative.
You climb back into bed, ignoring the sound of what you could've sworn were another pair of footsteps.
"It's nothing." You said.
"It's something." I whisper through the floor boards creaking.
You lay quiet, trying to ignore the sound of things dropping in your closet, even though the sounds are clearly there.
"It's nothing." You chant to yourself, praying that daylight comes soon. After feeling a pair of bony fingers trace down your spine, however, you realize you won't be seeing tomorrow...and you were right to do so.
"It's Nothing."
The phrase they all say. The name they've given me...
How can you possibly find such comfort in a simple word? Isn't 'nothing' the thing you should be afraid of the most?
