Nina Simone. I am not going to talk about the things you already know about her. But there is a little secret  about the life of this great woman which many people have chosen not to care or talk about it.
She was loved when she became a singer and a pianist at a night club. She was accepted and performed at places she was never accepted before. You loved her because she talk about love and sang songs of the soul and how she felt about her self. She was the first black woman who was ever accepted to perform among the white people. You loved many of her beautiful long songs like ...I put a spell on you. My baby doesn't care about anything but me. Etc.
We loved her and made her a millionaire. She released different kinds of soul and love albums. She had a beautiful marriage and a beautiful child. She sang her heart out anytime she was ready to perform.the white loved her just like how the black people loved her.
But the moment she started singing about the bad treatment of black people, and joined the black activists who donated their life to help black people understand who they are and thier rights as human, she was hated. She stopped singing about love songs and dedicated her music to talk about the black community . All she was trying to do was send a message to the black people and let them know who they even are as black people.. she wasn't fighting anyone . She didn't kill no soul. But she was educating the black people to stand and have a say in the white land. She said many things that thousands of men couldn't say till now. She wasn't afraid . She was no coward. She was a true Africa woman. But because of her truthful songs like "mississipi gooddam" etc. She was hated. She was not allowed to perform no more. She was abandoned. Everyone who helped to push her music stopped. She had no more million of people who were ready to listen to her song. But she never gave up..She chose between being a great star for the white people to love her or teach the black people about who they are and be hated. She did what most Africans couldn't do.
Now the best singer Nina Simone was no where to be found.. her dreams was crushed because the killing of black people never stopped.. all her friends like Martin Luther king died and she had no reason to sing again...She knew they were going to kill them all.
She became alone and she had no more voice to speak for people to hear. Why was it so? I guess she was just loved because of her love songs. But when she found out she could use he voice to fight for black people ,she was loved no more. And yet you tell me there is no racism in our time. Ofcourse there is.
Nina had no gun to kill but just a voice on a record label..blacks didn't have anyone to tell them who they are and how powerful they are. Nina Simone was there to help.
For me I think she could have lived for a very longer time if both the black and white people didn't abandon her. She ended up in France. In a small dirty apartment. I guess she moved from being a queen back to the ghetto.
Even thou she had the chance to come back on stage again to perform. Evenythough she redefined herself again and made new songs and performed for millions of people again..She wasn't to be abandoned just because she talked about black life matters.
I love Nina Simone for who she was as a love singer to who she became as a legal activists. And what she did could never be done by any other person.
May her sweet soul rest in peace..and whatever she said In music is happening today even in 2016. God bless Nina and yes Ofcourse MISSISSSIPI GODDAMM!
