My name is Shasta Lusanna Blue. I am an omega wolf. The lowest of the low in pack life. But there is something different about me. My eyes. All blue eyed pups of the pack go to Luna training to find out who the new Luna wolf will be. Omegas never have blue eyes. That's why my mom calls me her special little girl. I don't want to be special. I didn't ask for this. I wanted to be a normal wolf pup who stays home and cleans the dens and helps the elders. But no. That was not to be my life. I was born with blue eyes and now I was being jostled around in a tight group of wolf cubs vibrating with excitement.

"Now cubs, line up and stand straight and tall with dignity and poise." said a great white wolf. She was the beta wolf, Astraea. Her eyes were a beautiful green color, like emeralds. Immediately, we all moved into a line. I straightened my spine and lifted my head high with my hind legs slightly behind my body and my front legs directly underneath me and as straight as possible. Astraea started moving along the line making small corections to the young wolves posture.

"Calla, you're slumping. Henry head up. Shasta......great job. Your posture is perfect," my tail wagged a little at her praise. I had worked hard at perfecting my posture. Standing in front of the waterfall for hours watching my reflection and trying to copy the older wolves. "Star, your paws are too far apart and you must straighten your spine. Good. Now that everyone is ready we will start your test." Astraea turned and we followed her into the forest. The test she was referring to was the entry test that we had to pass to be able to participate in the training. You had to pass the entry test, master every aspect of the training, and pass the final test to even go to the choosing ceremony on the full moon. Then you have to stand under the moon in a ring of sacred stones and somehow the moon will send a sign if you are the right wolf for the job. Just then we walked out into an open field of grass, surrounded by massive trees interwoven together forming kind of wall. There was a huge lake on the eastern side.

"Alright cubs, line up." said a powerful voice. I looked up and stifled a gasp. Not to strides away from me was the alpha. Lykos: a great black wolf with eyes as golden as honey and as warm as sunlight. This was the closest as I had ever been to him. He glanced at my stunned expression and immediately his face lit up with amusement. He motioned me to join the others who had already lined up and were chatting quietly. I took my place and stood up straight and looked straight ahead. Lykos stood back and scanned the line of wolves. His eyes lingered on me scrutinizing every detail of my posture. I saw his expression change from amusement to surprise. That's when I realized that the amusement wasn't directed toward my behavior. It was directed at what I was. He thought it was funny that an omega thought she could be the Luna wolf. Suddenly I was angry and I stood even taller, straighter, and more commanding. I relished the look of pure astonishment in his eyes. Then I noticed that the beta, as well as all the other cubs were staring at me. I started to feel nervous. My ears went back slightly and I relaxed my posture back to training posture. Then the alpha slowly walked toward me.

"Young wolf, what is your name?" he asked me.

"Shasta, sir." I told him.

"Your full name."

"Shasta Lusanna Blue." I watched as recognition washed over his face.

"Blue. I should have known." He gave me a long look that slowly filled with pride. I didn't understand the look. He didn't seem to want to clarify. Instead he turned and trotted briskly towards the northern end of the arena. After a moment we hesitantly followed. I heard a sharp barking command and glanced back. The wolf named Calla had hunched down when we started moving and was now being scolded. The beta was telling her about how all high power wolves move with their head up, spine straight, and tail raised. I immediately checked my own posture and made sure it was perfect as I moved along.
