Montana's pov
The ride back home was made up of a bit of small talk between my mom and Jacob. She had asked him about what he's going to school for and questions like that.
I tensed up as mom pulled in the driveway. I hoped that I could make it inside without being stopped by certain 'neighbors'. I got out after she put the car in park and stopped the engine. Jacob helped me get our suitcases out of the trunk and we made our way inside.
"Your house is nice," he commented.
I smiled and thanked him. Mom had already went inside, not bothering to wait for us, so I struggled to open the door by myself. As soon as I stepped inside I heard a loud "SURPRISE!" My eyes widened as I looked up to see all of my friends and family members smiling and waiting for my reaction.
I forced a smile and looked at Jacob.
'I had no idea. I'm sorry,' I mouthed. He nodded and laughed.
Bailey ran up to me with Crawford following behind. She gave me a bone crushing hug.
"Eek! I can't believe you're home! I've missed you so much!" She kissed my cheek and I smiled.
"I've missed you too, I'm sorry for not keeping in touch as much as I promised. It gets busy," I smiled sheepishly.
"Oh, it's alright! Who's this hunk?" She nudged Jacob and he laughed at her comment.
"Hey! I'm the only hunk in your life," Crawford piped. Bailey laughed at him and pinched his cheek.
"Of course, babe." She told him and he smiled triumphantly.
"Anyways, this is my boyfriend, Jacob." I introduced him. He shook both of their hands.
"I hope that you've taken good care of her," an all too familiar voice sounded from behind me. I turned around to see Chris smiling sadly at me.
"Chris?" I tried to sound excited but more like a question. I wanted to be able to get out of here without this happening. But having a surprise 'Welcome Home' party, that of course wouldn't happen.
"Monty, I've missed you." He hugged me lightly. It was a little awkward as I made eye contact with Jacob. He had a serious look on his face and I felt guilty.
"Yeah," I breathed as we separated.
"New boyfriend, huh?"
I nodded and shoved my hands in my pockets, rocking back and forth on my heels. He just smiled and walked off, thankfully.
"I'm sorry about that-" I started to tell Jacob but then got interrupted by falling to the ground. More like, attacked to the ground.
Brent was lain on top of me. He was still hugging me and rested his head on my arm.
"Brent. Can't. Breathe."
"Oh! Right! Sorry," he got off and helped me stand up. Bailey and Crawford were laughing while Jacob looked like 'ugh, how many guys does she know?!'
"This is my friend Brent, Brent, this is my boyfriend, Jacob." Brent looked him up and down disapprovingly.
"Another one? You sure get around." He said, hopefully joking.
"Shut up. You hit on every thing that walks." Bailey told him. Brent tried to deny it but failed miserably.
I smiled at my friends. I need to get my suitcases in my room so that I can enjoy this party somehow. I looked around for my mom but was met with Chris' eyes from across the room.
Suddenly, I felt guilty.
