"You have to start a band."

I stiffened in my chair.  It was last period, about 2:30 in the afternoon.  Actually it was 30 minutes after dismissal.  I was in a student teacher meeting.

"You've lost it..." There was NO way I would do that.

"Why not." My teacher said. "Narmi, sweetie... you're a good person.  Your grades just, you know... suck... right now."

"Then why are you doing this?"

"Ya! It's not like I have a choice, I cant afford to hold you back this year so do you want to fail?"  He ran his hand through his hair.

He's crazy, crazy I tell you.

"You said yourself I'm failing all my classes, then why-"

"Not all."

He stood up from his clack leather seat and walked his way around my flimsy plastic student seat.  He leaned against the front of a student desk, to my right.

I faced 90 degrees right and shifted to a comfortable position. Well, as comfortable as it could get in a plastic chair.

I tilted my head and begged him to break the silence.  He took out a slip of paper from his back pocket and unscrambled it against the edge of the desk.  After giving it a couple more brushes with his hand he cleared his throat.

"Language Arts... D... Science... F... Social studies... D-..."

I rolled my eyes and sulked in my chair. Yes I know i'm failing. It sounds worse when you say it like that Sir...

"Math... C-... Art... C+..."

"I get it!" He was pissing me off. What does he know... that-

I stopped when I saw him glaring at me from the top of the paper, the other still covering his face from nose below. I turned back around and faced his empty chair.

"Music..." I waited for him to continue.

"A-."

What.

"You see. You are not failing at everything. The school board has sat down and decided that this will be good for you. Of course you will get good college opportunities when you graduate this year as well. Of all your classes you are excelling really well in music, therefore this project can make you or break you."

"My I ask who's idea this was?"

"No. Any other questions?"

Ughhhhhh.

"If I fail?" I need to know the extent of this. "How far will this go?"

"If you fail you will drop out of this high school.  It will go as far as you want it to go, but first it has to start."

"What are the rules." It cant be that easy?

"I'm not allowed to show you unless you accept the offer."

I clenched my fist.

Make me or break me...

"WHAT KIND OF BULLSH- Ugh fine i'm in give me the rules."

He smiled. Ugh evil little.

He took my hand and handed me a rolled up piece of paper. I was about to open it but he suddenly pushed me out of the class and closed the doors.

Is he... is he drunk.....

Baka.

I walked to my bicycle and unhooked it from the pole.

I swung my leg over the seat and sat down, making sure to keep balance with one foot.  I took the paper and undid the little fabric bow that held it closed. Tossing the fabric to the grown behind me, I quickly scrolled it open.

"Band rules." I read to myself.

"Must have more than 2 members to qualify. Members can come from any where and must have signed a contract with leader (Narmi Valentine) to qualify as a member.  Members are chosen also by leader (Narmi Valentine)."

I shifted the weight on my other leg and adjusted the strap on my backpack.

"This band needs to be popular among the students in Jo Han High School (Currently Narmi's school). Band practice will take place in the school basement.

Win the students hearts. Good luck."

I took a deep breath.

What did I get myself into?
