Boxes.
They line the walls. Stacked in piles and placed randomly on the floor of my new bedroom. Sighing, I open my bag and dig around until I find my iHome. Once I plugged it in, I put my phone on and turned the volume up as high as it would go. As soon as the first note fills the air my shoulders relax and I smile and appreciate the sound. Music is my drug.
Five unpacked boxes later and there is a knock on my door. I turn down the music and my Mother walks through the door.
"Dinner will be ready soon." I smile in response and she takes my hand and sits me on my bed.
"Lily, I know you're not comfortable with the move and the new house, and a new school." She squeezes my hand.
"But we will make the best of it. Just me and you. A brand new life." She smiles. I smile back at her and lean into her chest. As her arms wrap around me my body feels with warmth. My father used to hug me like this.
A tear slowly crawls down my cheek and I quickly wipe it off. I have to be strong. I can't cry. Tears are drops of weakness, but if I can be weak around anyone, it's my mother.
