Later that night...
You can hear the sound of rain falling on the roof of the barn, followed by the sounds of thunder and lightning. Calvin is watching this from the entrance of the barn. Thunder sounds "one... Two... Three... Four..." Calvin says as he counts. KRA-COOM! Goes the lightning. "Four miles" Calvin says. "What are you doing?" Steven asks. "Counting the miles" Calvin answers. "Counting the miles?" Steven says "how do you do that?". "You listen for the sound of the thunder" Calvin explains "then count the seconds before the lightning happens, that's how many miles the lightning is away from us". "Wow" Steven said amazed "to bad Peridot doesn't like thunder". "Is she scared of thunder?" Calvin asks with a worried expression. "Yeah" Steven says "she always hides under the truck when a storm happens". Calvin gets up and walks to the truck. "Peridot?" Calvin says as he looks under the truck "are you OK?". "What does it look like?" Peridot says, obviously scared but not wanting to show it. "Cmon" Calvin says as he extends his hand towards Peridot "there's nothing to be afraid of". All of a sudden you can here the sound of the thunder rumbling and the lightning striking. "Eep!" Peridot yelps. Suddenly Peridot pounces on Calvin clinging tightly to Calvin's shirt. Calvin hugs Peridot close "don't worry, I got you". Calvin grabs a blanket and wraps himself and Peridot in the bundle "I'll protect you, even from thunder, OK?" He says as he hugs Peridot.
