The next few days were a bit tough. Getting settled into a new house in a new country is definitely not something you experience every day. It was confusing trying to find things in the kitchen; I could never remember where anything was. And the house smelled weird. Like it didn't smell like home yet.
I guess it would've been more difficult to get settled if it weren't for Niall. He and I spent countless hours together; every spare minute we had we would be playing together. Whether it was swinging on the swings in his back yard, kicking a ball around in the park across the road, or walking up and down the street many times in a row, we never got tired of each other.
After the weekend was over, it was Monday. You know what that means. School. Niall and I were going to walk together. He said he would pick me up on his way.
At exactly 8:35, Niall knocked on my front door. I quickly jumped up from the couch to greet him. We headed on our way after saying good bye to my mom. The walk to the school wasn't that far, but far enough to make me feel more nervous with each step.
"Niall.."
"Ally?"
"I'm really nervous. What if every one hates me?"
"Ally! There is no way they'll hate you. You'll sit right by me and I'll keep you company all day. There is no need to worry. I promise." He smiled at me and pulled me into a hug. That was the first time I felt what it was like to be in his arms. It made everything better.
We walked to remainder of the distance to the school, and were immediately greeted by some of Niall's friends.
"Hi! You must be Ally, the girl from Canada! Niall told us about you," the tallest boy said. I looked over at Niall and saw his cheeks getting red.
And that was what my first day was like. Everyone asked me what it was like back home, and all of them actually seemed genuinely interested. On the walk home, Niall reminded me that he had said everything would be fine, and I was glad I had trusted him.
Once we arrived to my door, we walked in to the smell of freshly baked cookies.
"Oh great! You guys are home!" My mom walked around the corner with a tray of cookies in her hands and greeted us with a smile. "Niall, in case you didn't know yet, Ally, her father and I are coming over to your house this evening for dinner. You're welcome to stay over until then." And with that she walked back to the kitchen leaving us with the cookies.
"Here, lets take these up to my room," I said.
We walked up the stairs, being careful not to drop the newly baked treats. When we got to my room we dropped our bags on the floor by the door and flopped onto my bed.
"So... What do you wanna do?" Niall asked me.
"Mm.. I don't really know. I'm really tired so how about we just sit here and talk."
"I'm good with that," he said with a smile. We laid on my bed for the next few hours talking about absolute nonsense until it was time to go over to Niall's house. I quickly changed out of my uniform and we grabbed his bag and walked over.
