“Fuccckkkk,” I groaned into my pillow as the rays of sunlight invaded my room. I checked my phone, 9 am, I had an hour before my exam began.

I rolled out of bed, literally, falling onto a pile of clothes next to my bed. I laid there in defeat, until Mel’s voice invaded the quiet.

“You know, laying there and pouting isn’t going to help you pass your exam.”

I rolled onto my back to look at her. “Yeah, yeah,” I grumbled, pushing myself up. Mel looked at me with her smug uppity expression I had seen millions of times this year. Then she left the room humming those blasted show tunes she just loved to play at full volume, all the time. And of course she had been up for hours probably cleaning and doing yoga and I hadn’t confirmed it but I was almost positive she had a voodoo doll of me stuffed in her closet. To say we weren’t the best fit was putting it nicely.

We were complete opposites. I have a deep brown tone to my hair, blue eyes and a slim figure, I generally don’t care much about makeup and getting done up unless I really had too. Melissa had always been really into working out and was constantly going to the gym, she was blonde and tall and always wore makeup whilst working out. She also spent a ton of money on clothing to workout in which made absolutely no sense to me, she just got sweaty anyway.

I trudged to the bath and quickly slipped in and out of the shower. Unfortunately I couldn’t take one of my infamous hour long showers, those really pissed Mel off, but I really didn’t want to be late for my exam.

“Ollie!” I ran into Sunroom Cafe and to our usual table tucked into the corner by the windows. It was our tradition to come and feast after our last exam each term, ever since first year.

“Mads, you survived I see,” he smirked. I laughed. I fucking love Ollie, we had been friends since Freshers Week when I ran into him with a plate of food. Objectively he was very attractive, but we had always been too good of friends to do anything. Except for that one really drunk night, second term. He had light brown hair that got blonde in summer and a sparkly emerald tone to his eyes. He also had these adorable freckles over his nose that he hated, but I secretly thought they were the most adorable freckles ever. Plus he was fit, he had been rowing for most of his life and was the captain of the varsity team. I was his certified cheerleader.

“Barely,” I grumbled with a frown as I slumped into the seat across from him. I took a sip from the coffee already in front of me, a smile growing across my face. Coffee could just do that for me.

“Well Sociology was a piece of cake, as I knew it would be,” Ollie chatted as we looked over our menus, which was a joke, we both knew we’d get the same thing we always do then share.

“Of course it was,” I pouted.

“Ah, Madigan and Oliver,” Mary, the kindest old woman you’d ever meet and also our waitress, walked over. She had been here forever and always happened to be here on the last day of term. “Made it another year without dropping out I see.”

“Oh Mary, we love you too,” Oliver winked at her. Her eyes crinkled into a smile.

“So the usual?” she asked, already grabbing our menus.

“Yes please, thank you Mary,” she laughed and left us to our coffee and tea for Oliver.

“Excited to move away from the witch?” Ollie laughed, referring to Mel. He and Mel had never gotten along, he wasn’t allowed in the flat when she was home. But, I’m a rebel and Ollie was always there, so sucks.
