Chapter 1

"Come on Kayla just one more day, you can get through

this." I thought to myself.

Today was the last day of school and I can't wait even one more day until summer. I love summer so much and this summer was going to be special. I just knew it.

"KAYLA!" I heard someone screaming my name which made me jump.

I ran down stairs to see who it was and I wasn't surprised at the bottom of the stair case to see a smiling Nick. Nick was my best friend, we did everything together I can always rely on the beautiful boy. Nick and I meet in first grade when he broke his wrist on the money bars at the back of the school and I had carry the hysterical boy to the nurses' office. Since that day we have been best friends ever since.

NICKY!" I scream and give him a great big hug. I can be such a girl sometimes, but I'm usually a reserved tom boy.

"Shall we go" Nick said grabbing my hand and begin to walk to school. It doesn't take long to get to school because I only live a block away from our school.

Walking into school wasn't hard knowing I only have 6 more hours until this school year was over. My first class was beginners Math, let's just say I'm not very academically inclined. I try but there is only room in my spacious brain for things I actually like, for example; Skating and the beach.

The day goes by so fast and in the blink of an eye, the school year was complete and I walking to my locker.

Meeting Nick at the front gate with a smile, I finally realised that my perfect summer is about to begin. Nick and I walk back to my house to get he's car before driving back to he's house.

Nicks house is huge, it has 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 1 kitchen and 2 lounge rooms. He lived in the attic. It had a 52' inch TV with a king sized bed. He's room was like every teenagers goals.

Walking down the stairs to he's room, we collected a packet of corn chips and iced tea before we settled in front of the TV to watch our favourite movie. We both opened our drink cans in unison which made us both look at each other and laugh.

After the movie finished we decided to ride our skate boards to the local skate park which was next to the beach. About an hour after skating around the streets and at the skate park we decided to take a walk on the beach. It was moderately warm so we walked close to the shore. The water seeping between my bare toes, I look across the horizon to see the sun setting perfectly across the settled ocean. I could see the rippled waves and imperfect layers of colours staring just at me.

"Are you ok Kayla?" Nick looked down at me.

"Summer has begun.' I whisper latching onto arm and smiling into the sleave of he's sweater.

Chapter 2

"Lately I've been I've been losing sleep, dreaming about the things that we could be" my alarm clock sang signalling it was time to wake up.

Turning over to switch it off, the time I read was 9 am. I know you probably think that's so early for a sixteen year old but I have to get up and embrace every moment of summer because it will be over before I know it and I know I will regret it if don't do just that.

I got up and had a shower, singing to various hooks from various different hooks I couldn't remember the whole songs. Mumbling to a Michael Jackson hit I got out of the shower to see a notification blinking on the screen of my phone.

"Come to the beach with me today meet u there at 12 :) xo" the screen read, stating that is was from Nick.

I replied back by saying sure thing, before locking my phone and continued to dry my hair. I then leave the bathroom and go and get changed. Finally after going through all of my clothes I put on a pair of high wasted shorts and a pink t-shirt and I slipped on my blue toms.

Walking back to the bathroom, I tie my hair up into a high pony tail.

Cascading the stair case was a sweet aroma of pancakes. "Good morning mother," I exclaim, kissing her on the cheek and hugging her.

"I love you," I smile eating a mouthful of the stack of pancakes my mum had made for me. "I love you too honey," she smiled.

"I'm going to the beach with Nick this morning," I tell her. "Okay have fun honey," she smiled.

By the time I finished the pancakes it was 11 o'clock, so I walked up stairs to grab my bag and skateboard before heading to the beach.

Skating down many I took right down Holland Street. Spotting Nick up ahead I decided to step off my skateboard and run up behind him. A beanie covered he's head, but I could tell it was him. To my surprise the tall stature didn't turn around to hug me, he's body just tensed up until I let go of my tight grip. Looking down at the floor in embarrassment, my cheeks grew red through the realisation that the boy I just hugged wasn't Nick.

"Well hello there?" he greeting me by turning around.

With my cheeks glowing red I remained full eye the pavement below me.

There are two options at this point; 1: Run away as fast as you can. Or, 2: Stay and explain my misunderstanding. Thinking over the two option thoroughly in the two seconds I had to reply, I decided to choose the second option.

"I'm so sorry my name is Kayla, I thought you were someone else," I explained trying my best to get out of this awkward situation I have now gone and gotten myself into.

"It's fine, there is no need to be sorry. It's not like I can be blessed with a hug from such a pretty girl like you every day. What is your name? " he responded in a sweet voice.

Before responding I looked up to see the mystery boy I had just hugged. Being blinded by the sunlight beaming behind his head, his features were hard to make out. All that I could see was his plump lips and eyes covered with large sunglasses. His skin was also tanned from what I could see.

"Would you like to catch up sometime? I have to get going but I would love to see you again?" He asks politely.

"Off course. I have to get going too, but if you put your number in my phone I would be happy to talk to you again sometimes?" he nodded in agreement and we proceeded to exchange numbers before parting in a hurry. In embarrassment I didn't look behind me until I turned the corner.

Feeling a buzz in my pocket I grabbed my phone out to discover a text message from the screen name; Sam my cuddle buddy. I laughed at the name he saved his number as.

"Catch up on Thursday at the pier?" The text message asked.

I replied by saying "Sure, what time?"

The texting continued until I got the beach. Seeing the sandy beach I had finally realised the summer had begun.
