Listening to Introduction to Africa from Metal Gear Solid V Original Soundtrack Selection

Annie was lying down on a carriage, reading a report book on how to identify a Titan's danger level and how to properly wear them down so Hanji could take them for testing. It wasn't exactly her most favorite subject but knowing the enemy more they do themselves gave her an edge. While doing this, she silently listened to Armin and Jean discuss efficiency on the ODM gear. For some reason, Armin's voice gave her a sense of calmness.

Well out of earshot of Annie, Eren and Hanji conversed.

"I'm debating whether or not to tell her about the seriousness of her condition," Eren said, "She has the right to know."

"I'm afraid I can't let you do that," the Scout Commander answered, "Imagine how she would react if she was told, out of the blue, that she was dying."

"But the more we hide it, the worse the fallout will be," Eren responded.

"Unfortunately, that's a risk we're going to have to take," Hanji said with a hint of sorrow in her voice.

Annie's eyes felt heavy. She layed the book on her face, blocking out the sun, and shut her eyes. She fell asleep within seconds.

Armin turned himself to check on her.

"Have you noticed that Annie's been falling asleep a lot lately?" he asked Jean.

Jean had recently taken interest in psychology and became an expert therapist, memorizing conditions and diagnosis of the mind, and was a helpful resource for soldiers and citizens.

"I have actually," Jean replied, "maybe late signs of onset narcolepsy?"

"Don't the symptoms show up in the late teens?" the Englishman questioned, "she's twenty-five and she's just started showing them."

"They do," Jean remembered.

"I think the infection's beginning to take it's toll on her," Armin worried.

"Hey," Jean tapped the blonde's shoulder, "She's strong. She can beat this."

"I know," Armin said, "but is it enough?"

"Anyways," Jean said, attempting to change the subject, "where's Sasha? I haven't seen her in a while."

"She's in the infirmary," the blonde answered, "Freak bakery accident. She was watching them mass produce sliced baked bread when one of the chopping machines broke suddenly and the blade cut her right leg clean off."

"Will she walk again?" the Scout asked.

"Luckily for her, the blade barely missed her knee joint," Armin said, rubbing his eye and yawning, "I just pulled an all-nighter trying to finish her prosthetic replacement."

"And how's that going?" Jean questioned.

"Recoil calibration is pissing me off," the Guardian answered, "but other than that, it's basically done."

"Hey!" Connie rode up next to the two, "Have you noticed that we haven't run into any Titans lately?"

He was right. It has been over an hour and they haven't encountered any of the bloodthirsty giants since the wall.

Annie suddenly snapped awake, clutched her stomach, and curled up in pain. Her blood ran hot as her stomach turned and twisted. It was as if someone had taken brass knuckles, drove them deep into her insides, and went hog wild with a powerful magnet. She stumbled off the carriage and disappeared into the forest nearby.

"I'm going to see what's wrong," Armin said, pulling his horse back.

Eren heard the commotion behind him and turned to look.
