Taehyung's eyes widened in disbelief. "I'm getting married to Jungkook?" His voice was a mixture of confusion and panic. "But we're just friends!"
His sister's gaze was unwavering, her tone firm as she met his incredulous stare. "Noona?! Are you sure about this?!" Taehyung's voice cracked with frustration.
"Do you think marriage is still a joke?" she shot back, her patience wearing thin.
"Did you plan this?!" Taehyung demanded, his voice rising in distress. His heart raced as he tried to make sense of the unexpected news.
"No, not really," she admitted with a shrug. "But Mom and Dad said you're getting married. The problem is they don't know who your future spouse is. They asked for my help since I know you well. So, I came up with Jungkook. You must be happy because you're marrying your boyfriend."
"What?! Jungkook and I are only friends! He's my ex-boyfriend, Noona!" Taehyung's whisper was urgent, his eyes darting around to ensure no one else overheard.
"Oh, really? Why didn't you tell me?" She looked momentarily surprised but quickly masked it with resolve. "Sorry, brother, but it's settled. Jungkook's parents also approved this."
"How can I get along with him? I don't know what to do! Wait! Jungkook doesn't know about the marriage yet, does he?" Taehyung's anxiety was palpable, his hands clenched into fists.
"I think not yet! But the Jeons will tell him today," she replied, her voice laced with a mixture of sympathy and frustration.
"Why am I getting married anyway? I haven't done anything wrong!" Taehyung's voice was filled with a sense of injustice and confusion.
"Well, there are two reasons," she began, her tone adopting a more explanatory edge. "First, Mom and Dad want you to be trained and ready to take over the company in the future, and the Jeons' company will help build a strong partnership. Lastly, they want you to become more responsible. I think Jungkook can help temper your rebellious streak, as he's a good influence compared to your usual antics."
Taehyung's brow furrowed deeper as he absorbed her words. "I didn't know you two had broken up, so I'm sorry, but you can't back out now. You're in an arranged marriage with Jeon Jungkook." Her tone was resolute, leaving little room for further debate.
Taehyung fell silent, his face a mask of frustration and resignation. "I thought it was your job to take over the company. When is the marriage?" he asked, his voice flat as he tried to suppress his anger.
"In the next two weeks," she replied, her eyes softening with a touch of sympathy.
"Awh! Noona, this is too much! We're both too young for this kind of commitment," Taehyung argued, his voice tinged with desperation.
"Aish! I handled it at your age, remember? You were thrilled when you found out I was marrying Byun Baekhyun," she smirked, her tone almost nostalgic.
"Okay, Mrs. Byun! I hope I don't end up regretting this engagement," Taehyung muttered, rolling his eyes.
"Oh, Taehyung! You're going to come to love Jungkook again. Don't worry, time will tell," she teased, winking playfully.
"Tch! Whatever. Let's just see," he shrugged, trying to hide his growing unease.
"Oh! We should go. I need to get ready for my flight later," she said, her tone shifting back to business.
They exited the restaurant, and she dropped Taehyung off at the mansion. Before leaving, she looked at him with a softer expression. "Taehyung! Please don't be angry with me. We love you. Noona loves you."
