Lily came into the world. She had a normal birth, and seemed to be like any other baby. In fact her and older brother Liam were no different as youngsters. Apart from different genders. They both had the same amount of hair, the same beautiful sea blue eyes, as well as that cheeky smile, which can brighten anyone's day. As a mother you always keep an eye on your child for changes. When she was 3 years old, her hair was long enough for a hair trim.

26th August 4:32pm 2003

Me and Lily were on our way to Classic Cut hair dressers. Lily couldn't wait to be able to see again, rather than the view of brown hair "Mummy, I can't wait to change my hair". I smiled. We walked down Cherry Tree Lane, heading towards the salon. 'ding-a-ling' Went the door bell, as the black door opened. A warm welcome followed the jingle "Hello! Welcome to Classic Cut. Are you Mrs Jones?" said a young women with long brown hair, dressed in black with a bright pink apron. "Yes, we have an appointment at quarter to five." The women walked behind the pink wooden counter, opening a pink A4 diary. she flickers through the pages, then points on this weeks page "26th of August at quarter to five...... ah yes, here you are. Appointment for a small trim for Lily. Okey dokey, that's fine. Take a seat Lily." I picked up Lily, walked up to the pink high swivel chair and sat her down. "How much hair would you like to be took off Mrs Jones?" I measured my thumb and Index finger to Lily's hair "About a centimetre off the bottom of her hair and fringe." "Okay, no problem!"

All seemed fine at first. The woman was brushing her hair, but then Lily randomly speaks "My hair likes the feel of that. My hair likes you." The woman was surprised by what a 3 year old has said. "Aww that's cute" She looked at me with a smile. "I like your hair too". It seemed very strange for her to say such a thing, but what can I say? She's only three years old. Lily's hair was brushed. Time for the trim. The hair dresser unveiled the silver shining scissors from the wooden draw, which was next to Lily's seat. She steadily measured the scissors to the hair to cut off 1cm. She uses force on the scissors. "Owwwwwww" screamed Lily. The hair dresser carries on cutting, but only reaches half way before Lily screams again "Owwwwww. That really hurt my hair!" She starts create tears. "Your hair? Lily you're being very stupid" I said "No mummy! It really hurts!" Lily starts to cry even more. I picked her up from the chair and carried her to the door. "I'm so sorry about this, I'll pay for the half trim once Lily has settled down." We left the salon.

I carried her towards home, coming off Cherry Tree Lane. "Mummy my hair is hurting! My hair is hurting! The hair dresser is bad" cried Lily. "No Lily stop being pathetic! You're just creating attention!." We are nearly home", but Lily is still screaming with pain. I started to run as she's making my tinnitus worsen. I reached and opened our front door. "Eric! Eric! Come here at once!" I shouted. Eric and Liam come running down the stairs "What, what's wrong? Why is Lily crying?" "Lily had her hair cut, but she says it hurts her hair. She hasn't stopped crying since." I replied in a loud nervous voice." "Are you serious?" Liam and both Eric replied with confusion. "Yes. Liam, just run the bath quickly. Maybe the heat can calm her down!" Liam ran up stairs to the bathroom. Eric took Lily from my arms and carried her to the living room. I walked in and saw Lily sat on the maroon couch, with Eric sat beside her. "Shush my child, calm down. Does your hair really hurt?" Eric said in a soft gentle voice. Lily whimpered "Yes, daddy, it really hurt me a lot!" She starts to cry again. "Shush, Shush, okay, okay, calm down. wipe those tears away. You can have a nice bath and we'll see if the pain has gone." I stood at the door. "Come on Lily, your bath will be nearly ready." I said. Lily stood up, holding her hair and walked towards me. 16 year old Liam came down the stairs "Lily, the bath is ready. " He shouted. Liam came into the living room, picked her up and took her to the bathroom. I walked into the living room. "Oh Eric, what've I done? I feel like a monster for taking her there. I didn't know she would react like that." "Don't feel ashamed Jen. We don't know if she's faking it or not. If she says it still hurts after her bath, then we will take her to the walking centre tonight. Eric stood up from the couch and hugged me. "Everything will be alright." After the hug we sat down on the couch and watched the news.
