A/N:New novel i'm working on, I'm really excited about it, hope you all like it (:
Mom had gone out "with her friends", and Dad to work. I was at home with a dangerously high fever, and I had no idea what to take to make the pain stop.
I fished around in my bathroom closet, trying to find something, anything, to ease my pain. I pulled out a translucent orange container and screwed off the lid.
Without checking the label, I desperately poured two pills out into the palm of my hand. With the help of a dirty glass filled with water from the side of the sink, I swallowed the pills.
I sat down on the porcelain toilet, my head in my hands as I prayed that the pills would help. I began to feel dizzy after an hour or so, and I tried to get up and make my way to my bedroom to rest.
Upon standing up, I stumbled and collapsed onto the fuzzy green rug. I moaned out of pain and tried lifting myself up again, only to fall once more. I soon gave up and laid there on the bathroom floor, drifting in and out of sleep.
After a few hours, I heard the phone ringing in the kitchen. It continued to ring, and each time it ended it picked right back up again in another call. I helplessly lay on the bathroom floor, and soon fell into a deep and unawakened sleep.
I felt someone shaking me, but that was all. Soon, I drowned in ear piercing silence.

"Colby Marcus died from an overdose of non prescription pills on June 19th. The medical consultants who were there the day of his passing recall the 'shrieks and screams of his mother ringing throughout the halls of their small suburban apartment'. It has been assumed that Colby committed suicide due to the constant lack of his parents' presence at home. His mother claims that she has no idea how it all happened. 'Colby was such a happy boy. A smile was always on his face, pushing through whatever disappointment he might've felt.' she told New York Times a week after her son's funeral."Upon hearing this, somewhere distant in wherever I was, I knew it was false.
This wasn't right, I'm not-I wasn't suicidal. I didn't overdose on those pills on purpose, I wanted to make myself feel better. Not feel-dead.
That's exactly what I feel, dead. Emotions are close to non existent, physical feelings are zero to none.
I can only see white, a bright and blinding white. Because of this, I keep my eyes squeezed shut in fear of going blind.
Not that it matters anyway. I'm not really alive anymore. I can't go blind once i'm already dead, right?
God this is so confusing, where the hell am I?
"Well Colby, you're currently in Port A. Welcome."
My eyes shot open upon hearing the voice, and I looked all around me to find the person it belonged to.
"Up here Marcus." The slick voice chuckled. I looked upwards, to see a girl floating above me. I squinted through the light at her.
She had light blue hair, light brown eyes, and she was quite tall. Her hair didn't flow gracefully down her back, it was cut short, about an inch or two below her jawline.
It appeared as if it was hacked off with shears or a saw, because it was very uneven. The right side was at least a half inch longer then the left, and she had bangs that unevenly curled across her forehead to the left.
"If you're done checking me out, Colby Marcus, i'd love to introduce myself." She remarked sassily. I blushed, and sat up, my hand flying to my head as I felt the room spinning.
"Yeah, you'll feel like you're on some really hard drugs for a little while here. You'll get used to it." She shrugged nonchalantly, causing me to nod.
"I'm Roxy, don't you dare call me Rochelle because its just Roxy, and if you do I will personally throw you off this cloud."
"Noted. I'm Colby."
"Yeah, I already know that." she laughed after she said this, which led me to wonder what was so funny.
"Right, um, how exactly do you know that?" I scratched the back of my neck out if true awkwardness.
"I'm a Secretary of Names, it's no big deal really, I just-you know-keep track of every resident in Port A and meet every single newcomer." She rambled on about her 'no big deal' of a job for a minute before I cut her off.
"So aren't you supposed to take me somewhere or something? Like, where is God? Or Jesus? Aren't they supposed to welcome you into heav-"
"Never say that word." She hushed me. Her voice had become extremely serious, and we got so quiet that you could probably hear a pin drop.
"Why?" I whispered. There were so many christians back in my life who ran around talking about the "golden gates of heaven" and "God will welcome us". Yet here we were, in what I had previously assumed was heaven, whispering about it like my old next door neighbor's affair.
"The Glories will explain it to you in a bit, until then, just hush up about it will ya?" Her voice lightened, and suddenly she was back to the rambunctious girl she had been just a few minutes ago.
"The Glories?"
"Hush!"
I sighed and continued walking by her side, wishing I could just go home. "The House is over here," she began, gesturing to our right. "and thats where you're gonna meet the Glories. They'll inspect you and all that, and figure out which job will be best for you."
"Inspect me?" I questioned nervously as we walked through the large doors. "Oh yeah. A full on body inspection, just to see your health, you know? Naked and everything, the whole ordeal." She explained with a smirk.
My jaw dropped, and Roxy took her finger (her middle finger might I add) and put it under my chin. She lifted my jaw back up so it was connecting with my mouth. She cackled loudly, and the woman at the front desk shook her head.
"Don't be scarin' him Rochelle, poor boy just got here and you're makin' it seem like we're all perverted hooligans." She scolded, and Roxy groaned.
"Mom, its fine. This is Colby, he's pretty chill. He can take it." Roxy's mom rose an eyebrow at her daughter, probably out of pure annoyance.
I waved, and gave a meek smile.
"Hi m'am, i'm Colby."
She smiled warmly. "Hi darlin', call me Jen." I smiled back and nodded.
"Colby is scheduled to meet with the Glories mom, could you page in to tell them we're on our way up?" Roxy asked, and I noticed the small exchange of looks that her and her mother shared.
"Sure Rox, I'll tell em' now. You two can go on up."
And so we started up, and I really wanted to run right out of there.
