My knife was placed on his throat. "How DARE you leave my daughter to burn!?" I snapped. "Get off of me! You would've done the exact same thing!" I glared at him. "If she died, I would've had nothing. NOTHING!" I hissed.

There was a crying and I turned around. Jack's son had a knife placed on Jaycee's neck. "G-g-get off my dad. I... I'll kill her, if you don't. I swear, I'll drag this across her throat, and she will die." I turned my head and stared at Jack. I shoved him off of me. "Alright, you little scum bag. I didn't hurt your dad. Remove the knife from her neck. NOW!!!" He let out a yelp and backed away from Jaycee. The entire time he had a knife on her neck, she didn't move or change facial expressions. She's either fearless, or a smart kid.

Jack's wife was staring at nothingness. "Is your wife mentally challenged or something? Did you fuck a mentally challenged woman?!" I snapped. "I can hear you, you ass wipe! I just can't see you. I'm fucking blind." I shrugged, not really caring. "My name is Lacey, by the way. Thanks a heap for asking." she said sarcastically, still looking of into nothing.

Jack grabbed his son's arm. "Justin... Go play in your room. Take Jay with you... I need to talk to Jeff." The boy looked at Jaycee and nodded. "Okay, Dad." He ran around the corner, Jaycee following.

"Jeff, I'm sorry about your house. You and Jay can stay here with us, since I endangered Jay's life." I thought about the offer. "That... I... Fine." Jack stood up. "Great. There are three guest rooms... We have a pretty big house. Jay and you can each take one." I nodded. "This will be good for my boy, as well. He'll finally have someone to play with. He's a lonely kid and kinda quiet." I stood up. "Let me go talk to Jaycee. She needs to hear this from me."

I walked in to see Jay and Justin staring at each other. She stood up and walked over to me. "Are we going soon?" she asked. "No... Actually... We need to talk. We're going to be living here, now. That'll be nice, right?" She turned to Justin. "I guess... But... I miss home. I miss Masky. I miss the forest." I wrapped her up in my arms. "I know, I know. I miss some things, too. A lot of your... Your mom's beloved possessions were in that house. Her favorite locket..." She looked at me and sighed. "This is going to be hard to get used to but... We can do it." I nodded. "Yes, we can." I kissed her forehead. "Lemme go check on something..."

I walked into the kitchen to see Jack kissing his wife. Memories of Iris and I flooded my mind, but I tried to push them away. It happened, and it was done and gone. Why couldn't I understand that? Did a part of me just want to suffer? To hurt?

"Hey... She says it'll be fine. Can she take a shower now?" I asked. They pulled away and Jack nodded. "Yeah, she probably needs a shower. Justin!" he called. Justin came running into the room. "Yeah, Dad?" he asked. "Teach Jay how to turn the shower on." He nodded and ran into the bathroom, Jay following.

"Justin is a good kid." I said quietly. "Jaycee is a quiet girl." I nodded. "She's going to be like her mom. I can tell." He sat there, looking deep in thought. "I'm so sorry... About your wife. She was a good woman." I nodded. "Jaycee needs me, now." Jack shrugged. "Well... She'll be growing up here in the underworld, now. This place isn't too bad. Kinda quiet." I looked out the window. Besides the sky just being a black void, it looked just like the normal world. The grass was green, the rocks were browns and blacks, some grays. The only difference was that in most places, it was an eternal starless night.

I walked outside and stared up. Maybe we could visit Masky. No matter what, he still was my best friend. I sighed and laid down on the grass. "So... This is my life now?"
