"Good morning mother" I say as I walk up the stairs giving my mother a cheerful smile, I walk towards the bench and plop my school bag on the floor next to me, she turns around and plops my plate of food in front of me, choc chip pancakes today yum.
"Good morning darling how was your sleep?" She asks before turning back towards the stove.
"It was good, today's a very special day isn't it mum?" I ask looking at her back before cutting into my pancakes.
"What's special about today Ace, do you know?" Asks my mother as Ace walks into the room.
"I don't know love, come on Malia, tell us" says Ace smiling over at me.
"Aww come on guys it's my 15th birthday" I say smiling to myself.
"Ah yes I remember my 15th birthday, that was a memorable day.... and night" says Ace looking over at my mother, I see her blush knowing that he was doing something that I couldn't see, from my view, my step dad has been my mothers best friend since they were 5 and have stuck together through thick and thin up till now I can't remember the full story of when Ace admitted feelings for mum but I do remember that it was after my biological father cheated on mum, so Ace has been my father since I was 18 months old, but I still have to visit my father every fortnight.
"Well happy birthday sweetie" says mum pulling a small white box out from under her apron, it's got a small, blue ribbon tied in a bow wrapped around it. I undo the ribbon quickly but carefully, and take the lid off inside lies a beautiful silver wolf charm connected to a silver chain.
"Oh my goddess, this is so beautiful" I say quickly ,turning away from my food and flipping my long white hair over my head as I quickly put the necklace on, I flip back up and turn back towards my parents and food.
"How's it look?" I ask, before shoving a piece of pancake in my mouth.
"It suits you so well darling, too bad you have to wear it to your fathers tonight" says mum looking over at Ace as she says it, sadly today I have to go to my fathers after school and go through the terrible birthday routine we go through every year, but the gifts (luckily) change every year as I get older and I write out a birthday wish list every year for him other wise he would still be getting me the colorful lighting up, baby toys.
"Awe mum I'll be home on Sunday night" I say finishing my breakfast, I walk around the bench and hug my mum, we pull apart and she grabs my hand and walks me to her room.
She pulls out 3 massive white tubs, she pops the lids off them all and inside is a heap of clothes from famous clothing brands.
"Okay choose some clothes and I'll write you a note to give to you're teacher stating why you aren't in school uniform" she said before closing the door.
I choose my clothes and then walk out of the room, I show my clothes to my parents and then grab the note, my phone and my backpack, I head out the door but not before hugging my parents. I start the trek up the hill to my school.
I arrive at school and walk in everyone looks over at me and waves, yes I am one of the popular kids, but I'm not one of the snobby nosed girls who rub in other people's faces about how apparently 'cool and beautiful' I am, I used to be the lonely little girl who would be besties with the old librarian (even though I still am) and who used to be picked on for how I looked, but that all changed once I got into a fight with the queen bee... And won, yeah doing karate for 2 years helped a lot, but then again she's all bark and no bite, her minions tried to be my 'besties' and I could already tell they were trying to turn me into another clone of her, but I peeled them off of me and sent them running to some other poor soul.
I walk to my group of friends and see my step brother ,Alex, standing over against the brick wall with his friends, he's two years older than me and is the most popular boy in school, he's also the biggest asshole as well, his friends have both told me they have crushes on me and that I should be lucky to have their attention, constantly, it's so annoying. They only ever come over to my dads house if I'm there.
"Hello Malia, hope you have a good birthday" he says extra loudly, yes I keep my birthday a secret, only my close friends know and the rest don't. Then everyone comes up to me and starts saying 'happy birthday' and 'oh why didn't you tell me?' And all the rest it's such a big effort having everyone know about my birthday.
The bell rings and everyone heads off to classes I walk to music with my best friend Ella, we talk about my birthday and what it feels like to be 15. I walk into the room and sit my bag next to my desk and then the teacher arrives with a large mug of coffee, he sits down and marks the role and then we break off into our groups and start making the music we are told to, me and Ella are playing 7 years by Lukas Graham, I'm singing and she is playing piano. I have singing lessons every Tuesday and Friday, everyone says I'm good and that I should go on Australia's got talent or the X factor but I can't be bothered and it's just a hobby of mine.
The rest of the day is pretty normal other than me getting sent out of history for screaming at the teacher about how he shouldn't be teaching us about math because it's history, not math, and that was in last period so I got a 'stern' talking from mr smith the head teacher and then headed home, as I walked I spotted my dads car in the drive way, I walked a bit quicker and when I started to hear screaming and yelling the speed walking turned into full fledged sprinting.
I run into the house to find Ace, mum and my dad screaming at each other about me.
"Hey!" I scream over the top of them, they all stop and look over at me.
"Hello Malia, how was school?" Asks my dad.
"None of your goddamn business at the present moment, why is everyone yelling?" I say in a frustrated voice.
"It's sounds like you're all being murdered, I could hear you from up the road as I was walking home" I say pointing in the direction of the road.
"Well Malia we are discussing how you are moving in with me, since as we agreed on the child custody papers, that once you turn 15 you have to move in with me and as I told you last time you were at home, I was moving to London with Alex and Sharon for work and since you're moving in with me, you're coming as well"says my dad, by the end of the sentence I'm sure my face was as white as my hair and my mouth was opening and closing like a goldfish.
