Okay, so my last story was a bit of a flop so I tried again. This time, I spent many hours sitting in front of the computer, desperately attempting to write something good. A million words must have been deleted then. I know this isn't that great either; I'm currently suffering from writer's block. I need to turn this in today for an application though. I REALLY hope I get into this club. I'm going to cry if I don't...

Anyways, please give me feedback! I am always looking for ways to improve my writing style.

Delilah yawned loudly, tired from doing homework for the past few hours. She put her pencil down and laid her head on the desk. Exhaustion covered her in a blanket of drowsiness. It was getting late and she still had another assignment to do. Her eyes were slowly drooping and her entire body slumped.

A scuffling noise could be heard outside. Despite her rational mind reasoning that it was probably a plant scraping against the side of the house, a coil of nerves tensed near her heart as a quick heat went through her. As quickly as it overtook her body, it was gone, leaving a frightened girl in its wake. Delilah sat there for a few more moments, barely registering what just happened. She shook her head furiously and put her earphones in, turning on her music. Her hand picked up the forgotten pencil and began to continue her work. As much as she tried, her thoughts lingered on the strange noise she just heard. It was most likely nothing special and it was a mystery as to why she would spend so much time dwelling on it, but it couldn't be helped. Despite her efforts, she couldn't erase the noise from her mind but managed to focus on her work.

Her grumbling stomach broke through the silence. The pencil dropped on the table for the second time that night. She made her way to the kitchen to grab a quick snack, turning on every light between the two rooms. She poured herself a bowl of cereal and sat down to eat. Delilah didn't feel safe at all with her back facing the adjoining, dark room and casted several hurried glances over her shoulder. The muscles in her leg twitched in time with the quick pulse of her heart. Surveying the room with fearful eyes, her body would give a jolt at every shadow.

There was a bang coming from the direction of the kitchen window, as if something had fell on it. She froze though her heart rate quickened as it thudded painfully in her chest, threatening to leap out at any moment. The hairs on the back of her neck prickled as a hot chill ran its soft fingers down her trembling spine. Out of the corner of her eyes, her gaze shifted to the window.

On the panes were two bloody hands pressed against the glass. There was no face visible but she was sure that the nonexistent eyes were looking right at her. Sweat encased her entire being, rending her motionless. Her stomach gave an uncomfortable squirm while icy fear washed over the horrified girl. She quickly looked down at her cereal and tried to resume eating, but her appetite was long gone.

Despite better judgment, she couldn't fight the curiosity to glance back at the window. It was all dark outside and nothing was visible, like she was staring a blank black sheet of paper. She let out a sigh of blissful relief until her eyes caught a smudge on the pane. Squinting really hard, she could see that it was two red, smeared hand-prints.

She bolted. She ran to her room in a panic. As she was passing by the door to the backyard, she heard the whimper of a dog. The knot in her chest tightened; it couldn't be her dog whining in pain, it just couldn't be. Delilah closed the door behind her and leaned on the door, ragged breaths escaping her shuddering figure. Her heart hammered inside her, banging against her rib cage.

With a determined resolve, Delilah sat back down at her desk, turned on the music, and tried to resume work. She was nearly finished when her ears caught a noise. Even with the music on, she couldn't ignore the sound of a door opening in the house, followed by soft steps approaching her way. Slamming on the light switch, she ran and jumped into bed, quickly covering herself with her blankets. She would finish her homework tomorrow morning. Even though heat was flooding her veins out of fear, she wrapped herself up in the blankets more, as if they could protect her from what unknown terror was coming.

The fear was agonizingly painful as she heard the door to her parents' room. All was quiet for a moment. She could only her own panic released in short breaths; it was like her stomach wasn't even there anymore, an empty void had filled its place. The silence was punctuated by a high-pitched shriek of terror. The noise was quickly cut off and there was a gurgling. Delilah's body was shaking uncontrollably. Her own scream was tearing at her throat for release but she was incapable of moving. It was as if anesthesia had been injected into her. A hot numbness was spreading through her system, her limbs receiving a tingly sensation.

Darkness was suffocating her. It was everywhere. She wanted to scream because she didn't know what was there, because she had never been more terrified in her life. The thuds grew increasingly louder with time. Each step was a stampede of elephants, threatening to crush her lungs that had seemed to stop functioning. Raspy breaths could be heard just beyond her door as two shadows consumed the light under her door. She had forgotten to turn off the lights. The knob slowly turned. Delilah shut her eyes tightly and wanted nothing more than to be anywhere but here. She didn't dare see what was there. She didn't want to know. It was horrible to hear the clicks in the door knob as it was slowly opened. There was a creak of the door as it swung open. Her left eye opened a tiny bit, defying her mind. She wished it didn't. There was a silhouette against her door frame; it stood out against the white of the wall on the other side of the hall. Some substance was dripping from the figure's hand and onto her carpet. Each drop was like the roar of crashing waves in her ears. She had lost all control over her body. It was like her mind had been disconnected from her physical self. Despite her internal cries for help, nobody came.

"Good night."
