A low grumbling woke me up from the first comfortable sleep I'd had in two weeks. My first thought was that it was the government trucks. They must have found out about the infant and were coming to take her away. My child, the one thing I had left. I couldn't let them do that. They would probably use her as another test subject. I shuddered, imagining the results. She must never become a shell of who she truly is, like I did.
The grumbling was a full out roar now, awakening me from my thoughts. And that's when it happened.
The ground started vibrating spastically, and the land around me started tearing apart. Lampposts shrieked, traffic lights groaned, and birds resting on the beloved trees of Aminius screeched.
Then Aminius was gone. A huge chunk of our world an island in space. Our capital, our government, all law and order gone with it.
Was I free?
Could I roam through the colonies by my own choice now? Could I escape the so-called life that I had lived for so long?
But none of those thoughts were of any importance.
There was something much more serious going on.
Another chunk of my life started floating away.
Then the ground started breaking apart beneath my feet. Where was my child? Hopefully someone managed to take her somewhere safe.
My heart was pounding, not in fear of my own life but in fear of her's.
I never even named her.
Why is it so dark?
Pain slowly disappeared from my nerves, and I soon lose all feeling.
Darkness edged closer.
Goodbye, dear daughter of mine,
Then the world turned black.
