- Saturday 7th September 2013.
It was a sunny morning, Gabi woke up to her mum Linda, dad Johnny and older brother Justin barging into her room singing (more like yelling) "happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday to Gabi, happy birthday to you, HIP HIP HOORAY!!" at the top of their lungs to wish Gabi a happy 17th Birthday. Gabi woke up, yawned, stretched and started laughing at how bad their singing was.
They finished singing and Gabi blew out the candles on a small cheesecake (her favourite) then made a wish. She wished that she could get a horse for her birthday. She blew out her candles and Justin asked what she wished for,
Gabi laughed and said,
"It's a secret."
Gabi has always wanted a horse, ever since she was little in fact. She started taking riding lessons when she was around four years old and fell in love with it since. Gabi has competed in multiple regional shows on her riding schools horses - Briar Ridge Stables. She has gotten a couple 1st, seven 2nd and two 3rd places. Gabi is a b+ student at school. She applies herself to every class she does. She can't wait to graduate next year tho.
Linda and Johnny both give Gabi a big envelope, Gabi opens it and in the envelope is $500 and a bill of sale. Gabi reads the bill of sale and is very confused.
She looks at her parents and they have the biggest grins ever, Linda says "your wish has come true".
Gabi finally figures out and jumps out of bed and screams in delight,
"You bought me a horse!!??"
"Just for you, princess!"
My dad has been calling me princess ever since i was little, in return i call him king because he is the king in our quaint castle.
My parents leave the room after giving me a hug and a kiss on the cheek then Justin told me my horse is at Briar Ridge. I desperately asked him,
"Whats my horses name?!?"
"His name is Spartan" says Justin. I push him out of the room and start getting changed into my riding clothes and put on my boots then run down stairs to have some breakfast.
I run downstairs missing every second step and walk into the kitchen where my mum is making pancakes and my dad is sitting there reading the paper and drinking his morning fix of coffee. Justin had to leave to go see his friend Luke play his rugby game. I wave goodbye to him as he walks out of the kitchen with half a pancake hanging out of his mouth and probably texting some chick he picked up last night. Justin is sort of a bad boy but in front of our parents he is an angel in disguise.
I quickly eat my birthday pancakes and gulp down my orange juice and beg mum and dad to take me to see Spartan. I put my L plates on the front and back of the car and get into the driving seat and wait for mum to get into the passenger seat.
She gets in and says,
"Lets go baby girl," So i pull out of the driveway and start heading down the highway towards Briar Ridge.
We get there, I park, then hop out of the car with great excitement. My mum leads me to his stall and i stand in amazement of this beautiful creature that stands before me. Mum told me that Spartan is an 8 year old, black Dutch Warmblood, 16.1 hh with a white star on his face and two knee high white socks. I get tears in my eyes and give my mum a massive hug.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you" about a million times. She smiled and said just for you.
I open the stall door and walk around Spartan taking every inch of him in.
"I can't believe he is mine!!" I keep thinking to myself.
I ask my mum if he is trained and she says he has already been in the olympic trials. I ask if I can ride him and she says "go for it!" I saddle him up and put his bridle on and lead him towards the vacant indoor arena.
