Dancing in the shadows (Paige Hyland fanfic)

Chapter 1

I walk in dance as always. I go to the changing room. Get changed. Do my hair. Sort my makeup. Then I'm ready for rehearsal. I walk onto the dance floor and await everyone else. At my studio I have many friends. On our team there is: Mackenzie, Maddie, Nia, Chloe, Kendall, and brooke We've been dancing together since we were 2 and we're all best friends. Chloe is my twinnie and I wouldn't swap her for the world. Brooke is my older sister. Nia is so kind. Mackenzie is the youngest so she's the baby of the group and Kendall has been dancing with us for about 3 years. Then finally there's Maddie the favourite. Our dance teacher Miss Abby only likes her.

Everyone is now standing in line waiting for our coach Miss Abby to come in and tell us the pyramid. The pyramid is to show us how miss Abby ranks us that week. As she walks in I'm nervous as I know that I'm expected to always be near the bottom. I mean I've never been at the top because Maddie always is as she's the best. She walks in and she says "hey girls. So this weeks pyramid goes like this. On the bottom we have Nia. Now Nia you need to work on your pirouettes and your side Aerials. Then we have Mackenzie . Mackenzie when I give you the responsibility of the group dance I expect you not to muck it up. Then we have Maddie." I'm gob smacked she's on the bottom. "Maddie you were sloppy and your solo didn't win and neither did your trio so that's why your here." I look over at her as I see a tear slip down her cheek. I want to run and hug her but I know I can't. "Right Maddie stop crying boo who your not one the top but come on your 13 you shouldn't be crying at that at your age." I'm actually shocked and I can see the anger on her mums face. "Then we have Kendall. You didn't win your solo. You got 9th I don't do 9th place. Next we have Chloe you had a beautiful solo last week and came second.  Next we have Brooke. Now Brooke last week you went out there and did fabulous in the trio and in the group number you were amazing. Now finally at the top we have Paige " I'm shocked I've only been on top once and that was 2 years ago. Miss Abby always puts me down. She always favours Maddie.
I shocked I've never been higher than her. "Paige you went out there and you shone I couldn't take my eyes off you. In the trio you did everything perfect. You won your solo there was nothing wrong with anything it was absolutely perfect." Everyone runs over and hugs me and my mom has tears in her eyes. So Maddie but not for the same reason. Her mother looks outraged and Maddie glears at me. "Right this week Paige you have a solo and so do you Chloe. Paige and Chloe you also have a duet. Brooke you have a solo and finally Paige, Chloe and Kendall you have a trio." I look at my friends in confusion. Maddie has always done this trio with us why now take her out of it. I look at the moms they look as confused as me. I've done this trio since I was 3 and I don't know if I can just replace Maddie. I know she annoys me but she's one of my closest friends.

After group rehearsal. I go into the changing room and drink some water. I only have a 10 minute break before I have to go and learn a new solo. I'm standing stretching my legs when Maddie walks in. As she walks past me she rolls her eyes. I don't understand why she isn't happy for me. All I've ever wanted is to be on the top and he knows that. You see Maddie has always hated me. Since that day.

flashback

I walkout on to the stage with Maddie. We are dancing perfectly. Suddenly slip just as Maddie places her foot down she falls and I hear a crack. Followed by a scream. I look up to see my friend in agony on the floor. I look down at her leg and notice a bone sticking out. What have I done?

End of flashback

She had to take a whole 4 weeks out and since then she's hated me. I know what happened must have been horrible but it was a year ago and it wasn't my fault. But she doesn't see it like that.
