Gone

Chapter 1: Lament

  The daylight had been reformed to a small sliver of light barely visible beyond the horizon. I was hardly able to see the Sun setting from my window since the other houses easily blocked my view of the impressive display of warm colors painted upon the sky. In that moment, I wouldn't have cared less if my attention from was ripped away from the dusk by cold hands; lifeless hands. However, I now know that those small moments should have been the ones I cherished the most.

I was slumped on my bed at the closing of a long Saturday. I had been with my friends for most of the day walking around the plethora of shops in our town. Though there were many retail stores and fast food establishments, we settled for a simple coffee bar.

I glanced down to my jean's pocket and reached inside to find two quarters and a penny. Wonderful. I thought, I'm broke. Who knew I could spend $20 at a coffee shop? Oh yeah! I lent Hailey $5 when she needed some money to finish paying for a doughnut. I als- My thoughts were suddenly interrupted when my phone started to buzz uncontrollably. I felt to my right, but my phone wasn't to be found. I repeated the same step to the left to no avail. Why must I always loose my phone? UGH!  I searched around my bed only to find nimble crumbs and a sock, which I proceeded to throw on my floor and deal with later. I finally found my phone wedged between two pillows resting on the side of my bed frame. It read: AMBER ALERT: YOUNG MALE GONE MISSING NEAR HIGHWAY 24. LAST SEEN IN A SILVER DACIA LOGAN

I always thought it was a shame when people went missing, but I never thought into them too much because its too depressing. Suddenly, my phone buzzed and lit up again to see a text from my friend Courtney in our squad group chat. I swiped right to unlock my phone and clicked on our chat. My phone buzzed twice before the chat loaded.

Courtney💖💖✌☺☺: Did you guys get that alert?

SkylarIsDaBomb: Ye

Hailey01Kay: I hope it wasn't that fine ass man at the coffee shop٩(♡ε♡ )۶
