Into the Light

It was easy at first

My load was light

And the path was full of people

All going the same way

And then it changes

The darkness seeps out

Contagious

The light in my hand struggles with it

The silent battle

Constant and tiring.

I hold it above my head

And refuse to stop going

Scared my feet will not be able to start again

I hear the other footsteps

Going with me for awhile

Before departing

And leaving me behind

The surrounding darkness thickens

And i find it hard to breathe

Gasping

Suffocating

And then release.

My once young body is tired

Sluggish

My fear that i wont make it

Almost all-consuming

I resist looking back

And regretting this journey

I refuse to

And keep trudging on

And then i see it

I reach

taking my final steps

Before stepping into the light.
