He stared at me blankly, his eyes a dark brown. They reminded me of a bear's coat. Though, I would never tell him that. I would never tell anyone that.
Neither one of us spoke, neither one of us blinked. We just sat in front of the fire, staring at each other. His face, one I had thought I knew so well, was now completely strange to me. He was a stranger, a liar. Someone not to be trusted by me ever again. Yet I couldn't help but wish that he did it for my safety, but that was impossible, and deep down, I knew it.
I just didn't want to believe it.
Finally I stood up and turned to walk away. I couldn't look at his deceiving face any longer. I had things to do, people to hide from.
So, maybe running away wasn't such a great idea, after all. At first, it had seemed to be my only option. Now, I miss the comfort of my room, my bed. I wished I could hide in them like I used to, to block out the rest of the world. But now, I didn't have that choice. Someone had set fire to my home, burning everything I loved, including my baby brother.
I knew I should've taken him with me, but I couldn't bring myself to wake him up. He would wonder why we were sneaking out. He'd suggest that we say goodbye to our father. Our father, the man of my nightmares.
He was murderous, evil even. Always taking his anger out on me while brother was asleep. You wouldn't have thought he was bad if you looked at him. He looked normal, nice. He was the exact opposite, though, and only I knew the truth. So did my mother, which is the reason she's dead.
I'd ran away a month ago, made a companion of the brown eyed man that I once called Bear, hence the eyes. I thought I could trust him, so I'd told him everything. What a huge mistake that was.
He'd found my dad and told him where I was, causing him to lose my trust and causing me to run.
I ran into the woods, wanting to get as far away as I could.
I ran until I tripped on a tree root, and that's when I met its eyes and realize that it has been following me this hole time. I hold my breath as the wolf's nose touches mine, him standing directly over me and staring into my eyes.
Then it happens.
