Anna was 6 years old when she moved to this new town. She wandered into the forest, passed her backyard. Anna had another fight with her siblings so she went into the forest to cry. She then got to a small stream. It was crystal clear, as the oak trees shaded the ground from the harsh sun. The slight breeze made the flowers dance, and her long black pigtails flew behind her. Her hazel eyes clouded with tears, as she scanned her surroundings. Her pink dress splattered with mud from running through the forest. One of her pink bows fell off, so one of her pigtail fell apart. She slowly walked to the stream, and gazed into the water.
She sat at the edge, and put her toes in the cool water. She managed to wipe the tears of her face, yet they managed to come back a second later. She then sang, "La La LaLaLa La, La La La." She always sang when she was trying to stop crying. "You shouldn't sing when you cry. You sound terrible," Anna turned her head to see a blond boy staring back at her. He couldn't be be more than a few years older. "Who are you," asked Anna as she quickly hid her face. "My names Alex and you're in my secret spot, you stupid girl," sighed Alex. "I'm not stupid," said Anna as she stood up. "Well you look pretty stupid," said Alex and Anna started to cry again. "Hey stop it," said Alex, but it only made her cry harder. "Sheesh," sighed Alex as he hugged her and she was surprised. Her tears slowed down, then stopped.
Alex then pulled away, then he reached into his pocket and pulled out a clear plastic wrapped orange hard candy ball. "You know candy holds happiness. If you suck on it a flower blooms in your mouth," He smiled and Anna took the candy and smiled. "Thank you," as she said as she took it. He then surprised her when he pulled out a blue string. He took it and tied up her fallen pigtail. "Here at least you look a little better. Now I gotta go home. You better too," He said as he walked away. Anna sat back down and popped the candy in her mouth. "You know candy holds happiness. If you suck on it a flower blooms in your mouth," She thought as she smiled, and without warning a pink haze formed on her cheeks as she touched the blue string on her hair.
She looked at the stream and began to sing, "I do lone for rivers with waters to flow, roses with blossoms and thorns to grow. Kiss me, hold me, love me forever. Kiss me, hold me, love me. A prince who is giving his heart and his life a kiss which is charming as spell in the night." It was her special song, and now she had a special place. Anna came here the next day, but stopped when she saw Alex. This was his place, and she was intruding. She turned and walked away. She soon figured out he never came to the stream on the weekends. So that's where she'd be. Anna was playing when she fell in. Like a flick of a light switch her whole world turned black. "Hey are you ok!! Wake up!!," yelled Alex. Anna slowly opened her eyes to see Alex. He had her in a bridle hold, and to her surprise they were both soaking wet.
Anna looked around to see that he was still standing in the stream. He saved her life. "I'm ok," She finally said and he sighed as he set her down on the grass. "You need to be more careful," snapped Alex. "I'm sorry," said Anna as she looked at the floor. "Alright, just don't go in the stream, ya got that. You're lucky I came by. I was debating on coming today," said Alex. "I'm sorry," mumbled Anna as she began to cry. "Oh come here," said Alex as he pulled her into a hug. "I just don't want you to get hurt," said Alex as he knelt and stroked the top of her head. "Ok," smiled Anna. "Good, now go home it's getting dark," smiled Alex as he let her go and walked off. "You are my hero," mumbled Anna as she watched him go.
A few years past and Anna was 12 years old. She learned to sketch. So she would sketch her favorite place. Roses started to grow along the banks. They were common in her drawings. She liked fairy tales, so she drew princes and princesses. "Anna, what are you doing here," asked Alex as he walked up to her, and she closed her sketchpad.
"Um nothing much and yourself," asked Anna. "Nothing just wanted somewhere quiet to think," said Alex as he gazed out towards the steam. "Ok," said Anna feeling a little awkward and out of place. Alex walked to the edge and picked a rose off the bush. "You ever feel like life goes too fast," asked Alex, catching her off guard. "Oh um...yeah, but that's what makes life amazing," smiled Anna as she gazed into the water. "I suppose you're right," said Alex as he tossed the flower into the water. "It's like a rose," said Anna. "Hu?" asked Alex. "We all start as seeds. So fragile, and so small. Anything could keep us from growing. Some don't even get a chance to sprout. Yet the ones that do are tested by the elements, by cruelty, yet still manages to somehow keep growing. We live only to blossom, yet slowly die. It's strange to be honest. Life and death," said Anna. "Wow. How old are you," joked Alex. "I'm 12," said Anna. "You sound like an old man," laughed Alex as he walked off. "Old man," thought Anna as she let her mind wonder.
"Am I not girly enough. Why does he treat me like I'm such a little kid. He never takes me seriously. Should I change," thought Anna as she got up and walked back home. Later that day she walked by a dance studio on her way to the supermarket. "That's girly. Ballet. Maybe I should try that," thought Anna as she walked in. Anna walked into the ballet class and she saw a blond haired girl. She looked a year or two older, She had long wavy blond hair in a bun. Her outfit (leotard) was white, with a transparent white tinted short skirt, and white ballet shoes. She was beautiful, delicate, and Anna knew she wanted to be like her.
Anna ran back home, and talked to her mom, and the next week Anna started ballet classes. Anna walked up to the coach, and she handed her a packet. They were each given a different color, based on dancing style, as well as skill, and of course everyone wanted the white one. Anna looked down and her packet was purple. She was a novice. Day after day she went to class, and rarely ever saw Alex. She wanted to prove that she could be a normal girl, yet in the back of her mind she knew she might fail. Anna took lessons for about 6 years after that. She was now eighteen. Meaning she went to the advance class and given new uniforms. Anna was excited, maybe she would finally get white.
She looked at her packet to find that it was light pink. She was the chosen to be a solo performer. Barley anyone ever wanted to get pink. She now had one of two choices. Write her own performance, or use the dance every new solo dancer did. The teacher would help, but she had to pick her own song. Anna walked home, but turned at the last minute and headed to her special place. She needed inspiration, she needed to think. Alot had changed since she was a kid. Alex rarely comes to the stream, so now she comes when she wants. The oak trees that shaded the place had become thick and tall. looming over the entire stream. More deer started coming here, as well as more types of flowers. Looked into the water to see how much she changed. Her hair was no longer in pigtails, it was cascading down her back in waves. She wasn't wearing that pink dress, she wore her high school uniform. Time had gone so fast. That small bud, had finally reached full bloom.
She looked around and sat at the edge of the stream, and began to sing, "kiss me, hold me, love me. Give you. If ended your heart for me to beat. Who knows today what tomorrow still counting. The world reborn a new. The way is played with flowers and stars. My hero will come true. You see what i do. The miracle may redo. I do lone for rivers with waters to flow roses with blossoms and thorns to grow. Kiss me, hold me, love me forever. Kiss me, hold me, love me. Kiss me, hold me, love me forever. I do lone for rivers with waters to flow roses with blossoms and thorns to grow. Kiss me hold me love me. A prince who is giving his heart and his life a kiss which is charming as spell in the night. Kiss me, hold me, love m-" "What are you doing." She turned to see Alex standing right behind her, and she froze. "You sing the girliest songs," said Alex. "I wrote that song," said Anna. "Are you serious?," asked Alex. "Yeah," said Anna. "So who was the prince when you wrote it, and you wouldn't be talking about this stream as your river would ya," He smirked and Anna blushed.
"You don't need to know," Anna said quickly as she turned her head away from him. "Why? Could it be you're talking about me?," smirked Alex as he blew in her ear and she jumped. Making him laugh. "NO! LEAVE ME ALONE," yelled Anna as she turned and ran away. Alex watched her leave, he began to walk when he stepped on something. He picked up, and it was her ballet packet. Good thing it was wrapped in plastic. "So she's pink," smiled Alex as he walked toward the direction of her house. Anna managed to get inside, and lock the door fairly quickly.
She then realized her packet was gone and she flipped her shit! She spun around and open the door to see Alex and she screamed. "Hey calm down, god I came to return this," said Alex as he handed her the packet. "Thank you," said Anna as she calmed down. "I'll be looking forward to your performance," smiled Alex. "What," said Anna surprised and confused. "On your packet it says: Performance on January 7th, at 6:30. At the rose theater. Also it says you're doing a solo," said Alex and Anna blushed. "You want to watch me," said Anna's face still turning red. "Well yeah. We've been friends for years, and I never thought you've ever do ballet. Why did you decide to do it," asked Alex. "I just wanted....I wanted..," said Anna trailing off. "Wanted what," asked Alex raising his eyebrow. "I just wanted to try something new," said Anna lying. "OK, you just seem like a tomboy to me," said Alex. "Well I am a girl, I like ballet, it's what we do," said Anna looking at the ground. "Why can't you look at me in the eyes," asked Alex. After a moment of silence Anna sighed and said "I'm just nervous about my performance," still lying. "Oh, alright. Well I'll see ya later," said Alex as he turned and walked away.
"I wanted to show you I was a girl. I wanted to tell you that I can be girl. Ballet is girly, and why can't I be girly. You like girly girls don't you.....," thought Anna as she slowly closed the door. Anna sighed as she pressed her forehead on the door. Anna walked into her room and picked up her old notebooks, and re-read the song she wrote. She read it and thought about the meaning of her lyrics. She smiled and she knew tonight was her final performance, ballet was not for her. It didn't fit her. She was forcing herself into a place, she didn't belong in. Day after day, week after week, Anna went to practice. It was finally that day. Her hair was in a bun, her outfit fit perfectly, and she was confident. Everything went perfect.
At the end Anna saw Alex, but she stopped. He was with another girl. Alex looked and saw her, "Anna," He exclaimed as he walked up to her. "You were great," said Alex smiling. "Thanks," said Anna. "Oh Anna this is my girlfriend Sacoya," said Alex introducing her. "Hi," said Anna and she did the same. "Ok, bye bye," said Anna quickly as she ran off, leaving Alex confused and a little surprised. Anna got home, but instead of going inside she went to the river, to cry. Her heart was broken. "Why am I so stupid, It's not like he ever liked me in the first place. I mean why would he. He's 25, and I'm just a child.....I'm just a child," She cried. Anna stayed at the river for a moment before going back inside, she chose to move on. Months passed, Anna quite ballet, and joined tennis. Finally she felt like she belonged. She even stopped going to the river altogether, it was no longer needed.
Alex saw her a few months later, walking home. "Anna!," He yelled catching up to her. Anna froze. "Hey where have you been, I haven't seen you in months," asked Alex. concerned "I'm sorry, I've been busy," said Anna continuing to walk. "Hey, are you mad at me, or something" asked Alex. "No, I'm not," said Anna. "Then why give me the cold shoulder," asked Alex a little pissed off. "I'm not. I'm just not feeling good. I'm going home," said Anna quickly. "ANNAAAAAAA," yelled someone in the distance. They both turned and saw a guy with white shaggy type hair, wearing a track sports jersey, run up to them. "Natsume!?," said Anna surprised. "Anna I found you *pant* I was looking everywhere. *Pant* Come on," He said as he held her hand and she blushed. "Um Ok," said Anna and he began to lead her away. "Anna who is he," asked Alex. "Hiya I'm Natsume, I go to school with Anna, you could say we're very close," he smiled before he ran off with Anna trying to keep up. "Why did he piss me off so much right now?" thought Alex as he watched them leave. Natsume got to the icecream shop and stopped. "I'm not hungry," Anna sighed. "I know. But we can sit and talk," he smiled. "Talk about what," She asked confused as we found a seat on the outdoor patio. "What's bug'n ya," asked Natsume. "Nothing I'm fine. We won the tennis championship. I'm over the moon," Anna said nonchalantly. "Really? Cuz when you left school you WERE over the moon, but when I saw you with that guy... You looked like you wanted to run away. Your smile faded. So I'm gunna ask you again. Are you ok," sighed Natsume. "I'm not," Anna mumbled. "Why," he asked. A long pause happened, and they both stayed still. "He broke my heart," Anna finally said. "What," Anna turned around to see Alex and her eyes flew open. Yet before anyone could say anything she ran. She sprinted away. She didn't want to face him, she just wanted to crawl in a hole and die. She took a short cut through her use to be, special place. Anna ran till her legs gave out a and she fell in the water. She was out of breath. "Damn it," she mumbled. Anna crawled out, stood up, looked at the sky. She was embarrassed, damp, and humiliated. "Hey," she turned around to see Alex.

"Look, your just a kid, I'm sorry....but you should be looking for someone your own age," Anna looked heart broken all over again. "Or at least that's what they've told me," Anna froze, "what did he say," she thought. "I like you, ok. Sacoya and I were only dating so I could prove to myself that I should be dating someone older, someone who I could fall in love with. Someone I didn't want to loose.... I was wrong. See I always thought you should do better. I never knew how much I would grow to miss you. So I'm not saying you should go out with me, or take me back as your friend. I just want to say.. I'm sorry," Alex spoke kindly and understandingly.

"I guess your right. I've been trying so hard to change myself when all you wanted was for me to be the same... So how about we start over. All the way over...from the very beginning," smiled Anna. "I'd like that," said Alex. "Hello my names Anna, I'm 18, and I've lived here since I was 6. I love this town," she smiled. "My names Alex, I'm 25, and same," he responded. "Nice to meet you."
