The One That Got Away

It's almost 2 in the morning and here I am writing. Partida I have exams pa mamaya Hahahaha I was just really inspired by my conversation with my boyfie earlier about the one that got away so I hope you like it. :)

Maine and Alden were already checked in, in JFK-New York. Their flight is set to take off by 11am.

The couple was sitting in a bench while waiting for their boarding time. Maine was reading a book while Alden was listening to music with his headphones on just for both of them to kill some time.

"Hey"

Maine poked RJ's side.

"Hmm?" Alden answered after taking off his headphones. "Why?"

"I'm hungry"

Alden couldn't help but chuckle. "You're always hungry"

"Hindi kaya. Hindi lang ako nakakain kanina"

"Panong hindi ka nakakain eh we ate breakfast together?"

"Kanina pa kaya yung 7am, look 10am pasado na oh"

"Bakit ako hindi pa ko gutom?"

"Because you deprive yourself from food, you diet addict"

"Hey you really are hungry, ang mean mo na eh"

"Are you getting me something to eat or not? Kasi kung hindi, I'm gonna eat you alive"

Alden laughed. Nagtaka naman si Maine kung bakit. She meant it as a threat, but apparently Alden have another meaning in mind.

"You know I kinda like that idea"

And he laughed again. As soon as Maine got what he was trying to say, she hit RJ in the arm. Not playfully, but hardly.

"Aray! Hoy masakit yun, seryoso"

"Ibibili mo ba ko ng pagkaen o buong flight kitang hindi kakausapin?!"

"Sabi ko nga po eto na tatayo na eh, I'll get my wife something to eat. Nagbebeastmode talaga siya pag gutom eh."

Alden gave Maine a quick kiss before going and Maine was left alone.

Kinuha niya na lang yung phone niya and checked the tweets. There were so many tweets for her, from her loving fans. She couldn't reply to it all though she wished she could.

But one tweet got her attention

Maine is not the jealous type kasi Alden never mad her feel na second choice siya or may kakumpitensya siya, he always makes her feel safe. And it was more than enough. Pero di pa rin maiwasan ni Maine na mag-isip ng what ifs, it was her nature after all, mag-isip ng nega and to always expect the worst. She tried changing it, well because Alden hates this side of her pero it will always be there eh.

She was so busy reading some tweets about Julie when RJ came along with a Big Mac on his hand. He offered it to Maine. Kinuha naman yun ni Maine at tahimik na kinain. Alden was beginning to be bothered dahil hindi siya kinakausap ng asawa. He's thinking if may nagawa ba siyang mali or what.

Alden isn't the type na pipilitin kang sabihin ang isang bagay na ayaw mo, lalo na kay Maine. Kahit kasi mag-asawa na sila he still respect his wife's privacy. Nagulat na lang si Alden nang Maine was the one who cut the silence.

"Is she your one that got away?"

Maine said out of nowhere. Muntik ng mabuga ni Alden yung iniinom niya. He was caught off-guard.

"What? Who? San naman galing yan?"

"Si Julie."

"Si Julie? Oh anong meron kay Julie?"

Mas nagulat si Alden nang malaman kung ano bang iniisip ni Maine. Yes, they've talked about Julie from time to time pero never namang gumawa si Alden ng dahilan para maging uncomfortable si Maine. During their relationship, they have reached this comfort wherein they're bestfriends and lovers at the same time.

"I just wanna know, is she you're one that got away?"

Alden looked at Maine before answering. He thinks of right words kung pano sasagutin yung tanong ni Maine. Alam niya kung gano kasensitive si Meng sa mga gantong usapan, so he knows he needs to find the perfect words. Not because he was trying to win the best husband award but because she deserves it.

"No"

A two-letter word. Simple as that. Yan lang ang naisip ni Alden. Because why would she think na meron pa siyang the one that got away?

"Could you elaborate please?"

"No, I mean she used to be, but No"

You can see the confused look on Maine's face.

"Look, totga means something or someone na nanghihinayang ka diba? Something that you regret that you haven't fought for enough.Well, Julie used to be that, but you know what?"

Alden forced Maine to face him and look him in the eye to show her how sincere he was.

"Everything changed when you came into my life, kasi finally. As in finally, I understood why. Naintindihan ko kung bakit kailangang may mga bagay na mga mangyari at may mga bagay na dapat mawala, kasi may dadating"

He held his wife's hand and kissed it.

"Thank you for being my reason, my one and only reason for everything"

Maine smiled, which means nasatisfy siya sa sagot ni Alden. RJ calls this as the "RJ smile" kasi yun yung smile na alam niyang para sa kanya lang. Yun yung smile na alam niyang assured si Maine sa piling niya.

"One last question"

"Shoot"

"What if the one that got away came back?"

"First of all, at uulitin ko. Pakisiksik na lang po sa utak ha? Wala nga po akong the one that got away, "the one" lang meron kasi you will never go away naman diba?"

"Yes but please stop changing the topic"

They both laughed.

"Tinatanong pa ba talaga yan? Why would I care? I have you now. At masaya na ko ngayon, probably the happiest I've been. So stop na please?"

Maine quickly pressed her lips on his husband's cheeks. Its her little way of showing her appreciation.

"Breezy ka talaga"

Alden joked na nagpatawa sa kanilang dalawa.

"Selfie na lang tayo, dali! Para sa ADNs"

"Sure, dali"

Maine got her phone out and snapped a photo of her and RJ. It was a simple photo. They were both smiling, and you can see it in their that they're both happy.

"I'll post it"

"Go on"

Maine said. Eto nanaman siya. Alden laughed.

"Bakit ba you started it"

Maine started making faces again and Alden couldn't help but fall even more.
