Chapter 1
Aubreys P.O.V
"ooooo! these rings are gorgeous...I wonder why they are a pair when they don't match? " I wonder, concentrating on the markings of one of them. Beautiful.
"Well they probably weren't meant to go together." Mara said. "Everything here IS ancient. It has a story behind it. " she said surely. She thinks she has everything figured out. Wow she must be one of the mummy's herself, I think as sarcasm kicks in.
"I want it," I said "we're getting it." I glanced at the price tag. "...dang! it's a hundred dollars I only have seventy." Jewelry these days. How disapointing.
"Well ..I like them too, so if you give me the one with the pearl in it then I will pay the extra thirty dollars plus tax." Mara said staring at the silver ring hard. It had a pattern on the bowl of the ring that the pearl was in. It was absolutely breathtaking but I was in practically in love with the other one anyway. A gold ring with little hearts as the pattern accompanied with a beautiful diamond.
" Ha!! That's a done deal!" I squealed excitedly. I couldn't wait to show Samantha my bestestessss friend out of our band, and Jamie who is the sister of Samantha.They had brown hair and brown eyes and was beautiful on them. Samantha had long wavy brown hair but Jamie's hair is only kinda wavy and is short. Mara is pretty too. She is tall and has long straight brown hair and beautiful blue eyes which are also very big. (she doesn't think so). I have long blond hair and blue eyes but I don't have much confidence.
"Okay." Mara said happily. She took our money, counted it then gave it to the cashier. The cashier was maybe in her late thirties. She looks at us with concern . Mara asked her if she was alright, but she just shook her head and walked away with her eyes bigger than her head.
Mara walked over to me with a confused look.
"Man, what was her problem." I shook my head slowly
"I don't know. " I told her, unsure myself.
" ha! well I wouldve liked better service! " Mara yelled behind her like we had been talking about that topic, extra loud so that the lady could hear. The lady just muttered something under her breath. A different language maybe? I elbowed Mara, giggled and said "why did you do that. I feel bad for her now!! " she's harsh. I wonder why those rings were so cheap considering its had gold, silver and a pearl. Eh.. the lady probably needs the money or something.
She smiled and we went down the steps, making our way to the car."Hey aren't the boys coming over for a few weeks since its their break." Mara said, talking about one direction. We have been talking to them for quite a while now.
"I don't know. I think so, but I will ask Samantha to make sure, she would know. She knows everything."
We got in the car and Mara blasted the air conditioner to help us with the Texas heat we are enduring. She started the engine and slammed on the gas as soon as we backed out. "I swear you are the most dangerous driver." I said holding on to my seat. Why did I even think of letting her drive.
She gave me a crooked smile and drove faster. I rolled my eyes and looked out the window and noticed in the side view mirror red lights swirling over the road. "Damnit, " I said "pull over there is a cop."
Mara looked in the rear view mirror and smiled that familiar rebel smile ."its about time." She muttered. I saw her check her gas. Full tank. She then stepped harder on the pedal taking a sharp turn to the left into a small, old neighborhood. The cop did the same. "Hey."" She said calmly taking a snack bar out of her purse "Where is the nearest police station? " she asked.
I looked at her in fear "umm I don't know a couple miles south ...Exactly where we are headed!! " I say slowly realizing our situation.
"Uh oh " she said with what I heard as I small hint of fear coming on. Mara took two sharp turns heading west and eats the rest of her snack bar quickly.
There was three cops on our tail now but one of them turned around quickly. Oh great who knows what's going to happen next. I think I'm mentally freaking out right now.
Mara steps on the gas harder and I yelp my heart beating fast. A cop then comes out in front of us and blocks our way. Mara then notices a ramp a couple yards to the side leading to an open field. She takes it and I scream as the car goes in the air. All I hear are two gun shots and the car flips as it hits the ground.
"Put your hands up and step out of the vehicle! " a cop yells from his car.
"Shit." Mara says putting her hands up and opening the car door. I do the same as Mara except I'm absolutely terrified.
The cops take us to the station and show us to the phone. I go first giving a sharp look at Mara. I decide to call Samantha since we live together and she's my best friend. It takes a few rings before she picks up the phone. Thank god.
"Hi, Mrs.Payne speaking how may I help you? " she says, whispering on the 'Mrs.Payne ' part.
"Why are you whispering? " I ask.
"Umm no reason" she says unconvincingly "what's up? "
"Well umm how do I put this... Mara drove today, cop came, she kept going and now we are in jail. " I say calmly.
"WHAT!! TEll MARA SHE HAS SOME EXPLAINING TO DO! Ugh. We are on our way bye."
She hangs up before I can say bye. I walk over to a bench as Mara walks to the phone. I wonder what Sami was doing when I answered.
She dials a number and says, "Hello?pizza hut? Yes I would like a large pepperoni piazza. Yes please. Thanks. Yes. The police station, haha you know how the teens are these days!! Haha okay bye! " she says before hanging up and sitting down with a playful smile on her face.
I assumed she was joking because we had no money, so I just relaxed and waited. But then again..its Mara we're talking about.

Samantha finally gets here thirty minutes later, i stand up relieved. Then I notice Jamie walking fast behind next, five guys walk in behind her, catching my eyes on only one of them. It was One Direction. Well, I guess they were coming today.
Mara came up as a man walked in with a box. Pizza. She walks over and grabs the box saying thankyou. The man waited for the money. Mara walked over to Samantha grabbed a wallet out of her pocket and pays for the food. The man runs off and Mara inhales the pizza and takes a bite. Louis and Niall look at her eagerly like they are starving kids in Africa.. She rolls her eyes and gives Louis the box, with a tiny smile on her face and I think I saw her blush.
Samantha gets done paying the ticket for Mara's wrong doing. We all get in the car, Mara obviously not driving while Samantha lectures Mara half the drive saying a few choice words then talking to the guys the other half. I guess you can say it was a normal, pleasant day.
