'The teenaged girl stood on the driveway to her house. Her arms were folded, and her sky blue eyes showed no emotion except for steely determination. Her features were as cold, pale, and beautiful as a marble statue. You might think that she was a statue, if it weren't for the slight breeze ruffling her silver hair.'
I stopped typing and read through what I had written. I wasn't happy with it. For some reason my stories just weren't flowing today like they normally were. I took out my earbuds, cutting off the music from my ipod. Leaning back in my chair, I rubbed my eyes and sighed in frustration. I had been trying to write this scene for weeks now! Why couldn't I just get it right? Stretching, I glanced at the time then did a double take. Why hadn't I looked at the time sooner?! It was one o'clock in the morning! I glanced at the screen once more before closing the laptop. Maybe I would get back to it tomorrow. As of right now, I had to get some sleep.
"Kay, its time to get up." My stepmom, Katie, woke me up. I gave a muffled grumble and tried to bury myself under blankets. As a result, Katie turned on the light in my room. I squawked in my sleepy, disgruntled way and finally lifted my head from under my pillow.
"Mom... Remind me again why you're waking me up at-" I paused, blinking blearily at my clock, "Six o'clock?" She bent down to look at me. I could see that she was suppressing a smile, even though she was trying very hard to keep a straight face.
"It's your first day of high school, Kay. I thought you might want to get up in time for it." I sat up. Right. High school. Why did it have to start so early? These thoughts ran through my head as I sat up and stretched. Then I got up and got myself ready for school.
I went downstairs, and was pleasantly surprised by the fact that my stepmom had made pancakes. My parents got divorced when I was five, so Katie has been the only mom that I've known. Honestly, I have no idea why the movies all portray step-parents as evil and cruel. Katie's the best. I smiled at her as she gave me some pancakes fresh off the griddle. She grinned back and brushed her purple-streaked hair out of her eyes. As I dug into my pancakes, she walked over and sat across from me.
"Are you excited for high school?" she asked cheerfully (I've never seen her not cheerful. Its impossible to be in a bad mood around her. She'll just tease you and joke with you until you have to smile) I smiled at her through my large bite of pancake.
"Yeah, I guess so," I replied as soon as I was able, "I mean, mostly it just feels weird. High school seems too old still." Katie smiled and brushed my hair behind my ear.
"I don't think you have to worry. I had a lot of fun in high school. I'm sure you will too." I grinned at her, and we finished breakfast, filling the empty air with idle small talk. Before I knew it, we were in the car in front of Santa Clara High School. I took a deep breath and stepped out of the car. Immediately, I was completely enveloped in a mob of students walking through the front gate. As soon as I was through, I separated myself from the crowd, so I could have a moment to collect myself. I don't like crowds and I'm probably one of the least cool, most awkward and nerdy people in existence. I had a feeling that this was probably going to be a very long first day.
I have a very bad feeling about this.
Hey guys!! So I've finally started posting my story. The title isn't permanent by the way, I'm really bad at titles. If you guys have any other ideas, then please give them to me!!! Also please tell me what you think so far, and if you think I should alter anything. Thanks!
