Memories

A/N: I got the idea for this book from tv. They were talking about a guy who got a concussion from football and afterwards couldn't remember anything before waking up in the hospital.

I'm driving along listening to Panic! At The Disco when suddenly a car comes swerving down the highway going the wrong way. As I realize it's going to hit me, I jerk the wheel, trying to avoid the car. It crashes into me and everything goes dark.

I hear a beeping sound and I awake confused. A doctor rushes over. "What's your name?" He asks. I realize that I don't know my name. What is it? "I-I don't know" I tell him. He shines a light in my eyes and asks me to follow his finger with my eyes and not my head. I can't.

"What's going on? Where am I? Why can't I remember anything?"

"You were in an accident sweetie," a nurse tells me. "and it looks like you had a major concussion. We're going to call you Katy Texas until you remember your name."

I look down. Sure enough I'm wearing a wristband that says Katy Texas on it. As I look further down I see my left arm and leg in a cast.

A couple rushes into the room. "Where's our baby? How is she doing?" The lady asks with tears in her eyes. The doctor pulls them aside. "She's had a very serious concussion. She can't remember anything. Please do not tell her her name or anything about herself. She's very overwhelmed and if all the memories come back at once it could do more damage. Her name until she remembers is Katy Texas. We give city names to those who can't remember anything."

The woman starts crying. She asks me, "do you remember us?"

I answer honestly. "N-No. Should I?"

She cries harder. "She doesn't remember us!" Her husband tries to comfort her but she's hysterical. He too has tears streaming down his face.

The doctor herds them out of the door. "Let her get some rest"

I fall asleep.
