'If people aren't laughing at you, your dreams aren't big enough.' Ayaan smiled while reading the quote. He was mindlessly scrolling through his instagram to pass time while he was in the waiting room of the hospital, waiting for his mom to come out. 'Who understands this better than me?' He thought.
When people go through some struggles or problem in their life they think that they are some kind of gurus and they are experts of life. They began to believe that every serious quote is kinda based on them. They don't realise that everybody is going through something, and you don't have to understand all quotes. They were said by different people going through different situations and you don't have to understand what their situation is!
Ayaan had taken his sweet time realising that. Before that he had annoyed his mom by telling her how he felt the words; now he realised he never had. The pain he felt at that time was incomparable to what he was feeling now."Mr. Khan?" The cute brunette called.
"Yes?"
"Is it your mother inside?"
"Yes.....why?"
"Oh nothing. A guy just went inside looking pretty pissed off..." she trailed off.
"Ahh. That would be my brother. Thank-you Ms...."
"Michelson. Mariah Michelson."
"Thankyou Mariah. I'm Ayaan." He introduced himself. "I'll see you around?"
"Yeah. I come here to see my dad and he's not going anywhere anytime soon so sure." She chuckled.
Ayaan smiled at her before going over to the reception to ask if he was allowed in yet. Just as he was going there a doctor rushed over to him, "Call your father. It's an emergency. I don't think she will survive this surgery. I'm sorry but you have to inform him. And Hassan is waiting for you inside."
All colour drained from his face. His mother was a cancer patient and although people expect the families of cancer patients to prepare their minds for the loss of their family member but it's still not easy. Unexpected tears came out of his eyes and he wiped them frantically. The thought that scared him even more than his mother dying was to inform his sister about it. She was just so fragile, he knew she would break down. She won't be the same again but it was her right to meet her mom because maybe it was for the last time.
He forced these thoughts to the back of his mind and went to his older brother Hassan.
"Hassan? You called me?""WHY DIDN'T YOU CALL ME? SHE WAS IN HERE FOR 6 HOURS AND YOU DIDN'T EVEN BOTHER TELLING ME ABOUT IT?! WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU!" He barked.
Ayaan was prepared for this. He knew it was coming but he couldn't help it if he didn't want his siblings to through the same pain he was going through!
"Hassan.....listen to me, PLEASE. Just hear me out. I didn't tell you because-"
Just at that moment Ishaal came storming into the room. "Is everything okay? I was so worried! I called Sikander too, he's on his way. Where is-" she abruptly stopped when she realised that she was standing in front of two of her brothers who seemed to be in a very heated argument.
"What is going on Yaani? Is everything okay?" she asked.
"Isha I think you need to sit down. I'll tell you, I promise but just sit down."
Instead of calming down it added to her worries. "Yaani please tell me what is going on." Now she was on the verge of tears.
"Isha........maa is not well. And the doctors don't know if she will....." He trailed off, unable to complete his sentence.
"Tell her Ayaan. Tell her that you are not sure if she will survive this surgery but you still did not bother to tell us about it." Hassan roared.
"'Saan please don't. Not now." Ishaal was crying.
"ISHA HE CALLED OUR ABSENTEE FATHER BEFORE US! HE ACTUALLY CALLED THAT PIECE OF SHIT BEFORE TELLING ME THAT MY MOTHER WAS DYING! HOW CAN I NOT?!" Hassan exploded.
Ayaan had had enough, "NOW YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR DYING MOTHER. WHEN SHE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH CANCER SIX MONTHS AGO WHERE WERE YOU?! YEAH RIGHT ON A VACATION WITH YOUR BLOODY FAMILY! I WAS THERE WITH HER. I WAS THERE THE WHOLE FREAKING TIME! YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO SHOUT AT ME FOR NOT TELLING YOU. WHEN YOU CAME TO KNOW ABOUT HER CANCER WHAT DID YOU THINK? IT WAS GOING TO BE ALL RAINBOWS AND SHIT! YOU RUDDY WELL KNEW SHE WAS DYING!" Ayaan was also crying.
Just when he thought the day couldn't get worse their father stepped into the room......
